•
Why would anyone watch anyone else play a sport?
Idk, I don’t really watch much sports either but, if you’re being honest, comparing someone that is good at a game to a professional sports player is a bit asinine. The two aren’t even close

  • And why not? Because sports are physical skill and being good at a game is a different type of skill? To say they aren't at least similar is asinine.

  • No response so you're pretending to take the high road I see? Have a great Halloween if that's your thing.

  • Your argument clearly was too well constructed and he could not come up with a reasonable counter. It is clear you came out on top
No response so you're pretending to take the high road I see? Have a great Halloween if that's your thing.
Well, I suppose I can keep it going because you like to try and get the last word. Playing video games and playing professional sports aren’t even close to the same thing. If someone can trick a bunch of people into watching them play a game the good for them but to actually be on a professional sports team requires one to be talented enough to get picked by scouts and team owners. Anyone with a PC and a ridiculous personality can hop on twitch or YouTube and trick kids into watching them. People don’t buy $1000 tickets to watch some guy play destiny

  • Not once have you explained why sports and video game watching can't be compared. You know that right? You just keep repeating "they're not the same" and refusing to explain why

  • Sports are live action and depending on where you live they're also classed as religion. Video games are neither. Televised sports are usually all professionals at the top of their game, twitch streamers can be anybody, you don't need skill to be a streamer or content creator, you need the knowledge of getting people to watch your stream instead of someone else's, could be gimmick or could be a great personality. So essentially anyone can be a streamer but you have be amongst the best in the world to make it in sports team. That's why I don't feel like they can be compared. But we are all different and enjoy different things.

  • Anyone can stream on twitch in the same way anyone can pickup a basketball. You have to be amongst the best to make a living off of it for either streaming or playing a sport. And both are "live" btw.

  • Yes anyone can pick up a basketball but not anyone can make it, you need to be 1 of the best in the world. Anyone can stream game content, you don't have to be 1 of the best in world as you can play many different games and do multiple things to entertain your viewers, some people even stream mobile games and get high view counts. Personally the only thing I can compare people watching streamers to is a program called gogglebox. It's been TV here in England for about 8 years and I've no idea why, anyway basically it films people watching the weeks popular TV, so you're essentially watching them watching the TV.

  • You're not comparing the 2 things equally. You're comparing the top tier sports players to the average Joe. But why aren't you comparing the top tier streamers to the average Joe? Anyone can pickup a basketball, and anyone can stream. But not anyone can be in the top in either one

  • Because for me people who twitch stream aren't top tier players, if they was they would being playing in the Esports leagues competing against the other top tier players. Yes there are some very skilled people who stream to a high audience and make a living from it but there's also average players or players just playing just playing fun who do the same. But being average at sports and only being able to play in the local Sunday league won't make you a living. I just think twitch streamers cover a wider spectrum to be compared to sports.

  • I never said watching them can’t be compared. I said comparing streamer to professional sports players is ridiculous. If you like watching streamers, great! Watching anything is basically the same as watching anything else, but my arguments to other people was that comparing athletes to streamers is dumb.

  • Again you're not explaining why. Just stating things, that clearly aren't objective.

  • Explaining what? I said that watching sports and streamers is the same thing. What else do you want me to say? Is that not what your saying? I’ve already explained why I think streamers and pro sports players are way different and if that’s what you’re looking for search the thread and you’ll find it.

  • "If someone can trick a bunch of people into watching them play a game then good for them." While anyone with a ridiculous personality can get some type of audience, there is many streamers that are watched purely for their skill. CammyCakes is a pretty great example of someone who has a basic personality and gets views because he shreds in crucible. The idea of tricking someone is hilarious though. It's not a trick. People just enjoy watching them. Same as people enjoy watching sports. Believe it or not, sports are also games. People bet on them, have competitions, etc. Video games are just new to the scene and have been steadily rising to having larger competitions and larger audiences. Don't dig on something new just because it's not at the same audience level as football (yet). "be on a professional sports team requires one to be talented enough to get picked by scouts and team owners." There are competitive video game teams for many different games that require you to practice your -blam!- off and get chosen for. It's not just handed out to your room mate who also plays the game. While I can agree that something that isn't a physical skill isn't as impressive or attractive, it's a skill regardless, and people throw countless hours into honing it.

  • Some of you folks like watching streamers and that’s fine. The only reason I even mentioned sports was because someone else brought it up. I tried to end this conversation because you all think one thing and I another. To me, watching folks play a video game is pointless but to each his/her own.

  • Was just explaining the similarities between competitive video games and sports. Both are equally pointless. Just like everything in life. You did post your question to an online forum where people tend to... you know. Respond. So whenever someone with a different opinion than yours responds and you immediately try to end the conversation it just seems like you have nothing to support your own views, but also want to talk -blam!- about others.

  • That's not how conversation works bud. The comparison was in response to your question. You: "Why would people ever waste their time and do such a stupid thing like watching someone play video games?" Some Dude: "Why would people watch sports?" Even if your question is the same to sports (which it clearly isn't seeing as you don't think they're similar) the answer is still the same. Because people enjoy them. I don't understand why my girlfriend enjoys watching House Wives of Atlanta, it's a pretty -blam!- show. But I don't need to. I just need to understand that she enjoys it. My only issue with the conversation was that it was pretty clear you thought being a high skill level player in a game, and being a professional athlete had no similarities. Which just isn't the case.

  • You’re quoting me with things I didn’t say I asked why would anyone watch someone play a game? You then started comparing streamers to NFL players. Read through the thread and you’ll see how some people answer a simple question.

Seeing as you think streamers "trick" people into watching them I'd say that quote is pretty accurate of your real opinion. Regardless of how you worded it the first time. Your question was not an innocent "Hm. I wonder why people enjoy watching streamers. Hey guys! Why do you like watching streamers?". It was a "Watching streamers is pointless and a waste of time. Why would anyone waste their time doing something as stupid as this?". Say whatever you want. It's pretty clear reading through this thread how you feel about watching streamers.
