When is enough, enough?

In light of the recent Forbes article, the community rejoiced in unison, and the cries of glee could be heard around the world as Bungie confirmed a Shatterdive nerf. The author then commented, and then speculated at the other potential nerfs that were also mentioned by Bungie, hinting at maybe a Stag and Dunemarchers nerf- Bungie hinting at wanting to make Crucible more gun-play focused instead of ability focused. My question is when will it stop? This game will never be truly "balanced" for when something is nerfed, something else will always take its place, which will lead to more nerfs, and the circle continues till what? Destiny PvP just becomes Call of Duty? Many, myself included, don't play Warzone and Battlefield because of the ability/Super appeal that Destiny offers. Though Bungie and Destiny itself infuriate me on a weekly basis I feel, I legitimately love this game, and I worry about the future of it. I know this is a small part of the community at large, but I am curious as to how everyone feels.

  •
This game will never be truly "balanced" for when something is nerfed, something else will always take its place, which will lead to more nerfs, and the circle continues till what?
That's because it wasn't ever created to be balanced, nor was it ever meant to be balanced when D1 was released, and with this company the way they go about it, it is literally impossible. I know some won't like the truth, but allowing every single thing into PvP is the actual problem and has been for 7 years. In the process of Bungie attempting to "balance the game", they majorly screwed up the D2 base game, (the entire game.) IMO I believe it was deliberately sabotaged to get away from Activision because any AAA gaming company in their right mind would have never pulled what Bungie did taking a chance of losing the entire player base showing they learned nothing at all from the previous game. PvP is a mess and it will always be a mess because there is a PvE game mode that some of the adjustments no matter what side the adjustments are for will affect the other a good portion of the time. Then there is Bungie's "balancing" nerfing what's used the most. PvP or PvE. The game has 2 game modes that are not supposed to be treated as one, but for some weird reason Bungie has this illusion that they can "make everything feel the same across the entire board". They even actually said that back in D1. Yes, people, things do need adjustments once in a while but have you ever thought about this. Who creates the game and creates these weapons you guys cry about being "OP"?

    • The Bungie Dev Team has confirmed they knew Stasis was release way too hot and was going to have to be nerfed “SEVERAL” times. This is what happens in Live games. It’s something you’re going to have to get over or just move on to something else. Because with new Things like Abilities and even weapon perks, things happen to other things. It’s a ripple effect. So many visitations have to be tested. Especially weapon perks. Just look how many times Telesto has broken this game ALONE. Things get missed. So to answer your question. It will never end as long as we’re getting new Stuff. THIS IS THE WAY….

        • This is why I never wanted to see Trials come back to the game. It brings with it the ENDLESS whining about a balance that can never be achieved. An endless jockeying back and forth as players (cough streamers) look for any advantage possible.... ...and an endless POWER-DRAIN from the PVE side of the game. -blam!-. Stag was just (finally) made USEFUL.
My question is when will it stop?
When we stop BELIEVING that Bungie can force a square peg into a round hole...and make a "balanced and competitive" shooter out of a loot-based, POWER-FANTASY game. I gotta admit. I am SO sick of this toxic cycle of being given power....only to have it be taken away when the PVP whining starts.

            • Aww geeze come on guys, stop using magic space abilities in this game that gives you space magic! That's it were gonna nerf warlocks again!! 😡 Why don't they make a NO ABILITIES MODE FOR CRUCIBLE? So people can be as bored as they want and others can float around throwing fireballs or whatever the heck it is that they do in a different game mode.

            • It will stop once people realize the game cannot be balanced by the simple nature of what Destiny is. And, it'll stop once people that die to Stag rift actually realize they are not good at Destiny pvp. It's easy being terrible because everything kills you but at least I acknowledge I'm terrible. No amount of weapon and ability nerf will stop the cry babies from crying; special ammo needs to be capped per round as well since people are maining shotguns and fusions. Once the game is back to primary gun play only people will go back to complaining about how boring the game is. All of the pvp nerfs will ruin the pve side of the game. Flat out; accept you're not as good as you think you are in the crucible and play because you like Destiny, or stop playing and find a game you consider balanced and competitive.

You can’t please everyone and no matter how much we love the game if there is one thing out of line people will always call for a nerf until Bungie say “hey were putting our foot down every primary weapon exotic or legendary will be at a set ttk any less or higher than that set amount will not be changed, all shotguns will have the same range, snipers, genade launchers and fusions included. supers have x% amount of time to charge/how long you stay in your super and all supers have a x amount of health so they are not invincible, abilities in pvp will be set at a x% charge rate (an amount so its not too slow of to quick)”. Until that day comes it will be a never ending war of buffs and nerfs, nobody will win not the playerbase and not bungie in a way we all lose. Honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if one day in the future they make it so all players have a set amount of stats in pvp e.g. 60 resilience, mobility and recovery, while abilities like melee, grenades and class ability is set at 50, supers at a 40- maybe 45 set stat amount. Edit: probably needs adjusting though.

                • Considering that it's an FPS game with space magic and not a space magic game with FPS, the idea that 80% of any given crucible match is ability spam is absolutely a problem. Whether the sweats like it or not, crucible is a competitive space and people want to go in there to win. Nobody, and I mean nobody goes into crucible excited to lose 12 consecutive games to clan stacks with shatterdive dive spam and the abundance of OHK weapons like felwinters, jotunn, etc etc or 2-3 hit weapons like HCs. It's only fun to a very small, very loud subset if players who have the support of a PvP focused clan and play one single game mode all day and night. To the rest of us, it's a tack on mode we only go into to finish catalysts or seasonal challenges. Of I catch a dude off guard, that's an encounter I should win 90% of the time as long as I'm hitting my shots. With ability spam, it's basically a coin flip. It's nuts and it's not fun.

So we should just let three people camp in a Stag rift with Arc Souls in the back of the map? Wow, so much fun! I decided to run a Stag rift with Le Monarque last night in Trials to troll and it’s so incredibly busted. If anyone peeked us, they were dead on the spot.

Fixing obvious outliers that are vastly over performing doesn't create new broken overperforming weapons or abilities. Shatterdive is clearly busted and needs to be tweaked. Dunemarchers are admittedly bugged, so they obviously need to be fixed so they work as intended. Jury is still out on stag. I haven't seen it as a huge problem. If Bungie never addressed issues in the game we'd still be all running around with prometheus lens and deleting people in a quarter second and using nearly invincible roaming supers that lasted so long you could team wipe, go to the opposite spawn and wipe again.

When will it stop? When we start squelching people like PT on Forbes. He is a two-bit hack journalist with delusions of grandeur. He doesnt have his own opinion. He hangs around other streamers and bases his opinion off of theirs. When it comes down to discussion, he doesn't have an opinion worth much nor does he have much to discuss. I tell you, the bottom rung of our player base knows more about the game than he does. Rant aside, in all seriousness, the community needs to come to an agreement that we can move forward if we stop thinking about what we want versus what's good for the game. Any gun that goes unchecked in any game will seem to be overpowered. The same goes with any ability. The player base should just learn how to utilize what's new and find ways to beat it rather than sit and complain.

So Shatterdive alone makes Revanent the most overpowered subclass in the IP's history, even after melee nerfs (and the melee is still good as a utility if you can capitalize... And because you don't need an exotic for 2). And that's also before super, as well. Dunemarchers and St0mps (and T-Steps, but that hasn't been confirmed, I don't think) also make sense to nerf, since they offer the most powerful utility in the game for literally zero cost or tradeoff, for PvP an exotic has to have ABSURD utility to beat them. Stag isn't an issue, the community is just way to stubborn to adapt to it, it's nothing Earth shattering, in reality. I also believe the dev who made a tweet confirming Shatterdive getting hit also said they want to keep the speed far faster than Year 1, but they want to shift the focus towards primary gunplay slightly more.

It doesn’t. They’ve had years. There’s too much to account for. It will never be balanced. Any time there’s even the slightest semblance of balance, it doesn’t last long because of the near constant stream of new additions to the sandbox. It’s why I don’t take the PvP seriously, and I don’t see how anyone can. It’s why I don’t enjoy it. It just moves from rigid meta to rigid meta over and over again, which I don’t find fun.
