However the lag is -blam!- especially when matching cross platform
That's due to how the signal travels. From one platform to the server and then to the other platform and back. That takes some time...

 • Would it be worth turning off cross play for Trials? Only matching with your platform?

 • You can’t. Cross play matchmaking must be on to access the playlist.

 • There is no Hosting Server. It's Peer to Peer networking, except for the Tower. That's the only time Bungle has any server hosting at all. They still rely on the same code methodology they developed back in the Halo 3 2008ish days.

 • There's 2 bungie servers connected to every game. 1 hosts score + inventory, 1 does ammo boxes, flags and such. There's 3 good videos about it on YouTube from battlenonsense, he's a network guru guy who does it for all games. Regarding crossplay I've no idea how it all works, but I'm yet to see a psn player who doesn't lag, a psn invader who takes damage, or ai seemingly hitting like raid bosses when I'm in an area with a psn player. I couldn't use the loom in the tower the other day., It flashed, but nothing. Had to reload a tower over and over until I found a working one, surprisingly it was a heavily populated Xbox tower. Networking has always been bungies biggest flaw, so this is no surprise.

 • Yes, but those are not Hosting Servers for the actual game play. The game still relies on Halo 3 era 2008ish Peer to Peer Networking for gun play, which means "He or She that lags the most is the Crucible King or Queen".

 • Of course. It absolutely blows, n since crossplay I've given up with crucible, a d gambit is almost as bad. The lag n damage rejection is X10 worse now.

 • I didn't said hosting, I said how the connection is running. Destiny 2 still needs to constantly compare data sets from 2-4 different platforms, depending on who you fight in the game.

 •
Destiny 2 still needs to constantly compare data sets from 2-4 different platforms, depending on who you fight in the game.
Correct, and if they had Dedicated Regional Host Servers with each player connecting to the server that arbitrates everything versus the current bandwidth wasting Fecal storm of every player in the game having to constantly send and receive information to agree on who killed what and where, the game play would be a tonne better. The Guys at Respawn (TitanFall 1 and 2, Apex Legends) had a very interesting talk at one of the game summits on why they went Dedicated Hosting servers over Peer to Peer. One of the main reasons was that players internet is asymmetric, with most Internet Providers offering high download but very limited upload capability. This meant the more people in the game the worse that Peer to Peer performed, as for each player, you had a minimum of send and receive. Multiple by 12 player and you have 12 send and 11 receive connections PLUS any Tally servers (i.e. tracking kills, scores, start and stop of game, JIP etc.). Compare that with one up and one down connection for Regional Dedicated Host Servers and there's your answer why Bungle can barely do 6v6 PvP and why Gambit with 4v4 + AI adds can be a complete fecal mess if one or more players has poor internet.
