In ROI he was represented as a strong leader that wanted battle but knew better/when to hold back.
In Chosen he was represented as a crude jerk who barely listened to reason and wanted to kick an enemy while they were down. All for vengeance for the Red War which he didn’t even participate in.
Feels like a total paradigm shift for no reason.

They did but after listening to Crow this season I definitely see where he's coming from LOL. Loved Crow last season, but damn he really got on my nerves this one.
-
4 RespuestasListens to reason? 3 years ago the cabal took the travler and stripped all guardians of the light. Now we should be cool and Saladin is wrong for not wanting to be. Cabal are savages who take planets and Saladin isn't blind to that. Why would anyone trust the Cabal after their last attack on the tower
-
Remember when Saladin got super upset and concerned when we were investigating siva and didn’t insist every guardian attack it at once or the the vanguard were cowards.
-
I mean, he’s not wrong though, at least not when you consider things to the limited perspective he has. His methods may not be the most noble or civil, but he has immaculate intentions. Kill the enemy in their entirety before they do the same or worse to us. This idea makes a hell of a lot of sense when you think about it in context of the world they’re living in. The only problem I see with it is that he does not consider the possible benefits of not completely wiping out the cabal. Not that their track record is helping his view...however, I believe an alliance with them to have its merits, whether or not we pursue it I am unsure, but I see the benefits.
-
The old school guardians from his age were all murderous dicks and mafia types.
-
Honestly I think he’s always been a jerk and acts super tough. With the story and lore surrounding him, Zavala and shaxx he’s definitely the worst of the three in terms of being an ass for no reason. It definitely as amped up this season but I think that was mainly too have a more interesting dynamic on the good guy team. It was a bit much but overall I think he’s always been on that side of annoying.
-
Well...not only do the Cabal deserve the kick, they won’t be allies once we beat the Darkness and Hive. They’ll turn on us. Saladin wrote the Traveler off and defended the Temple and the people who managed to escape to it. Makes sense, a bit pessimistic but given his experiences, fits his character.
-
What's an example of him "knowing better when to hold back" This season shows his character pretty well. He's PISSED. The dialogue he gives you each season for iron banana shows that. He's pissed off you're using stasis, he's pissed off rasputin was given a chance at redemption
-
5 RespuestasOr maybe... just maybe... he’s being manipulated by Savathun via Xivu arath to foment War?
-
What paradigm shift? He is pissed Rasputin was given another chance. He is pissed we are using stasis. He is pissed and has finally decided to come down from his mountain and do something about it but can’t... And even then he is still listening even though he isn’t agreeing. His character is portrayed perfectly.
-
He is a scarred person He saw some "stuff" let him be
-
We might be seeing his weakness for the first time. His bullheadedness might be what got him hooked on Felwinter’s story and got the Iron Lords killed.
-
Ngl seems like lore has always hinted that he and almost all the iron Lords are very bitter and only care to dominate, hence why efrideet (Idk how it's spelt lol) left and Shaxx beat the hell out of felwinter and refused to join the iron Lords or hand his land over to them. If you ask me the salad man hasn't changed with the times and either needs to be put in line or asked politely to leave
-
Yeah. That was 5 years ago, when he could fight SIVA. Now, he cant go there and headbutt caiatl because zavala wont let him. Hes angry about that.
-
It's like he and Zavala traded personalities.
-
9 RespuestasHe isn't though He is 100% correct. The cabal attacked the last city and killed thousands. Why would anyone trust them now? Oh because the cabal empress said she didn't order a assassination? Hitler said he wouldn't invade Poland... Then he did.
-
3 RespuestasTwo words. Brother. Vance. This isn't the first time they've changed the paradigm of an NPC.
-
Feels like a total paradigm shift for no reason.
You stated the reason:
All for vengeance for the Red War
Except it's not for vengeance. It's for survival.
-
Saladin is a Warlord with a fancy title. Him being a crude jerk who wants to kick an enemy while they're down isn't outside the realm of possibility.
-
2 RespuestasThe plot demands it for some reason. Just like Cayde’s silly death. Or it has no reason like Osiris and St docking
-
Somebody needs to get his ass a cough drop.
-
I agree, the writers seem to of disregarded his character and written a new one.
-
Character assassination?
-
Maybe he's going thru male menopause
-
They needed a foil to counter crow’s virtue signaling
-
1 RespuestaHe's just jealous b/c Zavala is getting it on with Caiatl!!!
