Because people would stil be using the same 3 guns for years.... That's not good on a game that is played for multiples years and has new content every 3 months Works in game with no new content...it's been a thing since D1 just be glad they didn't sunset half of the exotics that time

Most of the community grind majorly for new loot even pre-sunset. It happened twice in D1 - and both times it was such a failure bungie had to revert the change A) In dark below where HoW brought everything back using etheric light and B) In ttk where the very next update after ttk brought almost all Y1 favorites back in the april update and age of triumph finished the rest. 2. Both times were before the infusion system was created, it may have been too difficult to code into old stuff - since then we've had 5 years of no sunsetting and the game was great. 3. D1 sunset was done specifically to move away from elemental primaries which bungie felt were too strong, D2 sunset was done so bungie could have its player regrinding old guns they have in the vault. 4. D1 ttk sunset was a one and done - let's move away from elemental primaries and that's it, anything post here you can keep for good. In D2 it will be a yearly sunset, this kills any drive for loot since months of grinding for a god roll is met with a time limit on usage
