Sunsetting is incompatible with the current seasonal & power level grind.
It undermines your invested time from the beginning and makes for a demotivating experience.
Something has to change.

3 separate trials Fusion Rifles... 3 different power caps... great system going on... I love how, if I want to keep using curated Nation of Beasts, I have to regrind a weapon... luckily I get to lose all my tracked kills!

The Chosen weapons even have the next expansion's cap. I mean, don't you wanna shake up your gear a bit? The current weapons do have good perks and rolls. And, what's the point in playing an online live-service looting game if you don't use new gear anyway? You rather play a single player straight up linear shooter like Doom, instead of Destiny. Playing any(!) videogame is wasted time actually, because no game lasts forever. It doesn't start with a games features, it already started with you playing a videogame in the first place. As long as stuff like the crypta weapons or the chosen guns exist, I don't care for sunsetting in the slightest. New and fresh stuff is needed.

Sunsetting for a better Destiny 2." Me: "Why are you doing this?" Bungie: "Did you read our 'Black At Bungie' post? Ignore the EIB-plagiarized logo and get woke." Me: "I just want to have fun and get cool loot." Bungie: "Play another game then, but buy our season pass now. You can't get those armor ornaments next season. FOMO!" I've been playing Destiny since before Taken King. My friend wanted me to play with him, so I picked up a copy. Been playing off and on ever since, thousands of hours over the years. The series has never been in a worse position then it is now. We were promised a better experience when Bungie left Activision, but its been the opposite. As bad as Shadowkeep was, I would take the repetitive grind of that over the empty grind of now. It took a month to get a roll I wanted, but I did that with the belief that I could carry that gun forward into future content. That's what they promised, remember? Not anymore. No reason to play this game anymore. Play Borderlands or another MMO. ESO is getting a new expansion soon, and unlike Bungie, they're not deleting half of the playable content to release it.

Sunsetting is strictly a means to reissue said gear at a future time and call it 'content'. The company's imagination has run dry. We get the same seasonal activity in a different skin season after season. The same weapons and armor with different skins. And top it off with reissuing 'powerful or most popular fan favorites' or some excuse, and call it all brand new sought after content. I really really try to continue to like this game but hamster wheel is getting to me. The gameplay is the only reason I stick around and I play mere hours a week at most lately. Face it, this is like every other free to play game chock full of nothing but grinding and silly and pointless challenges with no real reward. Unfortunately, I have to see it as such a game now. Just like every other free game. Just with better gameplay. I miss the magic this franchise had. Edit: Spell check

1 RespuestaCompletely agree, nothing worse than by the time non hardcore gamers "catch up" that the stuff we've spent longer grinding for is then obselete. I just think "why bother?" when the little gaming time I've got these days is wasted grinding for loot that'll be redundant when the next season drops.

Haha I just posted almost the same thing. It would work if they had DLC releases at the scale of Forsaken and Taken King. It doesn’t when all we get is a grindy activity with a marginal loot pool every few months. Total short sighted joke. They need new management.

It’s not like they will release anything broken like that again (if they want anything good for themselves, but then again, messenger can have desperado on it...). Why sunset so many average/above average weaponry? And ARMOR?! really? What kind of purpose does it even serve? What’s the point for me getting rewards for dsc when they have like 6 months left until they go away? Yeah they will probably make drops later this year have a higher powercap but then what’s the point of masterworking it or any other gear then?

6 RespuestasHow is it incompatible? It hasn’t affected me at all. Almost every piece of gear I have is good until after next season, 6 months from now. So please explain how it is incompatible? You don’t make any sense. I’m not grinding anything except lost sectors, otherwise I’m leveling up as usual, doing the same stuff I do every start of season. I don’t mind either. I’m getting good new rolls on armor, my new scout and pulse are quite good, until 1610 I think. All’s well here. You just love complaining don’t you?

2 RespuestasI'm pretty sure sunsetting only works with the seasonal model. With a dlc model all weapons would sunset out at the same time after a year. The seasonal model actually lessens the impact of sunsetting by staggering it. Without it sunsetting would feel like beyond light every time, well actually worse as there would be no gear that's less then a year old so it would all cycle out instead of just most of it.

I don't really mind sunsetting as is, but then I don't play serious PvP as others do. Even the hardest endgame PvE can be done with weapons you can easily get. Is a God roll nice, sure, do I need one, no. There are far worse things wrong with this game than 12 monthly gear refreshes. Now, if they start messing with my Exotics I may reconsider my stance.
