I think I understand the frustration but wasn’t this(kind of) what people were asking for?

We got Monkey’s Paw’d. We wished that the content still being sold wasn’t Sunset. Bungie brought back some of the weapons from each location (possibly to bring the rest in a later season or later in the same season), but much worse, they left the gear we earned as little as last Season in the Sunset pile.
I think I understand the frustration but wasn’t this(kind of) what people were asking for?
Nah. People were pointing out the absurdity of the locations being totally worthless. Doesn't mean people wanted them to bring so I'm of that loot back to be regrinded anew.

No what people thought would happen was we would get new loot and stuff to grind for to replace our sunsetted weapons/armor. Not have the literal exact same sunsetting items be put back into the game for us to regrind over again
-
During seasons and such right? This is just a random update for old content to make it slightly more relevant. Unless I’m misreading something. I agree if this is for a season or a new expansion I’ll be upset with you because that’s just blatant reusing stuff but this to me isn’t that.
-
It sure as crap is re-using it! Bungle capped that gear at max 1060 light. Then they raise the harder beneficial content level to ~ 1260 light. Bungle says we will be bringing in new Gear to replace the old, so we dispose of our old gear (much of mine Masterworked) and now Bungle says - wait were bringing the same crap back. So to summarize, no new content, no new weapons, old gear not usable for most activities which means you delete it to recover a small portion of the resources, then later bungle re-introduces it with a slightly higher light so you can regrind for it again. Is this enough clarification for you?

They’re making old content relevant again for a one time purchase. If this was apart of Vanilla D2(which no longer exists) they should have yearly armor updates. Vendors and activities specific to expansions however should not. For the record, I am not defending their position. I’m simply looking for clarification which hasn’t been brought yet since there have been multiple forum posts upvoted to keep Forsaken and Shadowkeep stuff relevant. Which they just did. You didn’t have to buy anything they simply made it relative again. I get the frustration of not being able to max up that god roll Apostate but they have a new perk pool now so it makes sense for those alternative weapons to not be brought back. If Blasphemer was reused for next season or for Witch-queen(something you have to pay for) then THAT is reusing. What we are getting now is something they probably came up with last second(which to be fair they should’ve realized this was a no brainer) but at least they’re doing it right?
-
Clarification is simple and plain. They re issued old gear with new perks and spat on every veteran who farmed out those weapons. I'm all for trying to retain new players. But not at the expense of your loyal vets. It's like taking away your favourite thing only to make you buy it again later. Not worth the effort. This issue could've been entirely avoided if they'd simply allowed you to update your old weapons and not force you into a re grind if you want to use it again.

No one, and I mean NO SINGLE player asked for sun setting and gear reissue. Go look, try and find a post here, on redit or twitter, anywhere, I challenge you to find one player who said I want sun setting and gear reissues.
-
First off, relax(unless I’m misjudging the response for which I apologize) Secondly, unfortunately I am sure there are people who did(theyd be wrong and dumb) Thirdly, what I am trying to say is, people want a reason to do activities that are old. People call it scummy that new players were buying old expansions for stuff that was now basically useless. Which I agree with. These new perk pool reissued weapons(while I understand are reused and that’s frustrating) are the response that seemed worthy for Bungie. Which means there is a high chance those expansions(Forsaken and Shallowkeep) will be taken out like the Red War. TL:DR Basically if the old weapons from expansions get renewed, to me that is okay. As long as it is from that point forward with THAT specific expansion. If they added these weapons in a season, there is a reason to be upset but they didn’t to my knowledge.

We can agree to disagree on your second point, I do not believe for an instant that any person asked for sun setting and gear reissue. As to making old content relevant, gear reissue is not getting it done. Here is why: Any piece of gear, weapon or armor, issued in a given season has 12 months of life form the issue date of that season. So 12 months form the "Refresh" to gear in old content it will be back to being obsolete again. So this is not a long term solution to making old content relevant. With 1 class item, 4 pieces of armor and more than a dozen weapon types, most have multiple slots (kinetic, energy, power), there was a tremendous amount of gear made obsolete by sun setting. There was not near enough new gear issued with this season to compensate for that total loss of items. With only a few replacements being issued per season, Bungie is so far behind the power curve they may never catch up; considering that before they can replace most of it, some of the replacements will be sunset. I believe this move on Bungie's part is not to make old content relevant, but to bring back some gear into the game so they do not have to spend the monstrous number of hours required to design, and test new weapons. The problem of lack of gear will continue to plague this game until Bungie fixes it or the game dies. The solutions options are pretty straight forward: 1) reverse sun setting - Best option 2) design and input at least one relevant piece for each slot each season - hardest option for Bungie 3) extend the sun setting deadline to 24 months, giving a larger window for which gear can be used and reduces rate for replacement creation - better for players, better for devs - middle ground 4) All in game content has gear that is valid and has no expiration date, so no sun setting for current in game content. Only sunset gear for stuff in the content vault. This stuff will be valid if that content is brought out of the content vault. - maybe best middle ground

I’ve already kinda made an opinion flip on my earlier comments but regardless thank you for the in-depth! I am very upset that(since sunsetting is implemented to begin with) that they don’t have a two year mark? Seems like an easy solution or the fact that they could just sunset pinnacles yearly would work too. As far as reverting sunsetting that would tick off a lot of people I think more than it would help. Sure I’d love that option(I hate sunsetting, especially on armor) but after so many just dismantled all their stuff I think Bungie would be in a bigger hole than they already are. However that could encourage players to come back so I guess I’m not sure.
-
Except they didn't get renewed. They got re issued and if you really want it you have to grind for it. Which I'm not doing.
-
Kind of, but more so more NEW gear dather than reissued gear
-
Yeah but that’s(again imo) mostly for seasons and DLC. They shouldn’t add new gear for old DLC if their plan is to kill that DLC in a year anyways right? If people get upset about reissues for seasons and BL I’m down but this seems like a lower problem D2 has right now.
I am glad to be told I am wrong btw! If I’m missing something lmk
-
While it's a lower problem it's best to sort this one out of they'll make it worse in the long run. The problem isn't them re introducing these old guns with new perks. It making their old copies useless and not infusable that's the issue. The open disregard for player time investment. Given that until sunsetting was implemented people farmed for several months sometimes to get their god rolls. As I've said before. Re issues work (you get to show off a old faithful to the newbies) but the catch is not to spit on your veterans in the process. But they spat on them anyway.

Alright so, if I’m getting this right. The major issue as of right now is the fact that people want their old Heretics and such LL to be increased since the new variation, with a different perk pool, will reach a higher LL?
Alright so, if I’m getting this right. -
Okay, see thank you for the honest and clear response. Because most people just blow up but I appreciate forum users like ya. That being said; if the reissued weapons have a new perk pool does that not make sense for why they’d consider those different weapons? Or do you think they should have left their perk pools alone and simply make the reissued weapons/armor LL raised alone.
Again I appreciate the response and I hope I don’t come off as a kelly Green I’m genuinely curious
-
The re issue was fine if you're a new player. No harm in that........ All Bungie had to do to avoid this sort of thing was let you infuse your old ones to the new cap. New perk pools was alright........except I know plenty of people who have some truly nutty rolls for their weapons already. Re grinding just isn't an option to them.

Alright, gotcha. Makes sense and again thank you for the useful response, it is appreciated. You’ve successfully changed my opinion/mind!
