It's because dragonfly causes an ELEMENTAL explosion, based on the weapons damage type. Kinetic isn't an element. It never was meant to have that perk to begin with.
Sorry they're FIXING a bugged weapon, but maybe people should stop relying on bugs and exploits so much and just play the game fairly.

If it made it to the game, chances are good it was an oversight on bungie's part, not a bug. It did work and it did solar damage just like ace of spades. Your missing the point of the post, bungie gave us something cool and unique which justified their statement last season about why sunsetting is good and now their taking it away. I mean it's a rare perk that had a small chance of dropping on an otherwise sucky smg which in itself was RNG if you got it from an RNG controlled reward. The odds were low of even getting a dragonfly smg so there are probably only a few thousand who actually got it and cold front only drops from a limited time event, so they may as well just left it and focused their attention on the more serious bugs that actually cause game crashes or even spend the time balancing stasis or making new weapons since they are only adding like 12 new guns plus bringing back vogs weapons

If it only did solar damage (i was under the impression it was doing void and arc too) it's the firefly perk and was just named wrong, all it needs is to be reworded right

I used it will a void class and it’s dragon fly was only doing solar. Unless the damage type is RNG and vary from weapon to weapon with the dragonfly perk. I don’t see the big deal in leaving it. It doesn’t make the gun OP. It’s only solar damage when it procs so it won’t exactly unbalance Nightfalls. It’s still not as powerful as the Ikalos smg spawning Warmind cells. Dragon fly isn’t even a top tier PVP perk. It just makes the gun unique. The recoil is so bad on controller if my dragonfly roll didn’t also have surplus I’d never use it.

You're missing the point, they said it's a bug in the beginning therefore it is going to be fixed. Stop complaining. I don't care it's rng based and a unique perk. Dragonfly is intended to be a second slot perk. And ofc it is bugged on a kinetic weapon. End of story.

It was a good glitch ,the fact that the only time they create something fun and unique is by accident says a lot Double Nightfall rewards was a bug also ,but they kept it ,dragonfly wasn’t hurting anything

Actually they said they were looking into it but never clarified if they were going to keep it or remove it. It wouldnt have been the first time bungie messed up and accidentally gave us a popular feature or item and then they decided to keep it in game since everyone liked it

Firefly also does an ELEMENTAL explosion, it's solar, yet chromatic fire makes EVERY kinetic gun do an ELEMENTAL explosion.

But its an exotic armor. That's a shitty excuse. Gun was bugged. Case closed. And Ace Of Spades was always with Firefly since D1 but it seems like some folks here have short term memory.

No, nothing to do with the armour. Their reasoning is it's not technically possible for primaries to have dragonfly, when clearly it is bcoz chromatic fire gives it to all primaries, so they're lying (again)

I wouldn't use cold front of it was the only gun in the game, it's ass. Good look getting crits on console. Shows how far we've fallen and how beaten down this community is, that we fight and beg for the non removal of a watered down D1 perk , on a reskinned 4yr old non meta gun, and they remove it anyway Laughable

The problem is Bungie could have came out and said they’re going to fix/change it when the player base asked weeks ago, but they didn’t. It’s now only getting changed AFTER the event. After people have gotten to play with it and farm specifically for this roll. Unfortunately this is nothing new, Bungie still being shit at communicating with the community.

This is a nothing answer. There was no clarification between the December 16th “investigation” and the end of dawning season with their intent. Bungie could have easily came out and told players they will fix it (remove it) at a later date or outline plans to fix dragonfly/firefly for the perk to work on kinetics, but they chose to stay silent until the end of the event.

It's pretty clear from dmg's statement the Dragonfly perk would be removed from Cold Fronts sometime after the studio returns from their holiday break and the event's end, the only question would be whether that perk would get re-rolled on existing copies, or replaced with something specific, which is what will happen with Swashbuckler. If Firefly existed as a perk on any Legendary weapon already, you might have a justification for expecting some kind of explosive perk to stick around on a kinetic weapon introduced as part of a free community event.

It’s not clear but you can infer their intent with the statement. Also firefly existed on kinetic primaries in Destiny 1 so they could have easily taken the community feedback from cold front and dragonfly to finally implement the perk. They already have working code from Ace of Spades firefly.

Which is kind of a kick in the nuts. Bungie could use some goodwill right now and have switched cold front dragonfly to firefly (they could have done this weeks ago to get players into and excited for the dawning event) and then announced more to come in the new raid. New perk combinations are exciting and we really need more reasons to keep playing right now. To me this announcement is saying they want to continue to stretch their content out as much as possible. At this point I feel it would go a long way with the community if Bungie would explain their reasoning a bit more surrounding their decision making. Public Relations feel pretty bad right now...
