There is a soft cap of 1200, you can get there just doing story missions and such. There is a hard cap of 1250, you get there by earning powerful gear. Those are completing 8 bounties for each vendor. Then there is the pinnacle cap of 1260. Those come from crucible, strike, and gambit playlists. Also from the raid, the nightfall with 100k score, and the weekly 5k clan exp. When you join a clan all your exp will count against your weekly clan cap. I might have got some of that wrong, I just finished a 12hr graveyard shift. I typed all this up while I’m warming up my car. Edit, read this link for a much more thorough breakdown. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/destiny-2-powerful-pinnacle-gear-sources-soft-max-level-cap-6007

 • Okay! thanks this cleared up a lot of stuff! Now only to figure out whats going on with the story missions so i could actually appreciate the beautiful backdrops and locations.. I can't figure out where to start the red war missions as they're not where the rest of the legacy stories are. Maybe it's not available anymore? So whats the endgame strikes and raids like? more of the same or is there any kind of teamwork happening when its more difficult? i haven't really noticed any kind of challenge yet.

 • There is no such thing as endgame strikes. Raids on the other hand, those are fun, hard, and require a lot of teamwork. At least in D1. The only raids I’ve done in D2 have been sunset.

 • Nightfalls are the same strikes with different modifications that make them much more difficult but the higher level nightfall complete typically the better rewards you will get. There are three raids in the game right now, I absolutely love two of them and dislike one of them but they’re all worth checking out at least once for the experience

 • Legacy stories were removed with the latest expansion. To be more specific, some spooky space pyramid thanos snapped 2 planets (mercury, Mars) and 2 moon (Titan, IO) from existence. Canonically this also means your character was born post red war. If you’d like to catch up on the story in full, like fully in full, we have a 4 hour timeline video from our resident lore expert MyNameIsBYF on YouTube that goes over most events, all the way up to the 2nd D2 expansion (shadowkeep) though I’d suggest stopping at forsaken (the first expansion) if you want to play through the story. Endgame strikes are just nightfalls. They’re semi timed versions of the strikes we tougher enemies, a unique enemy type called “champions” and a few modifiers that will change the gameplay a bit. For example 1 modifier will make enemies spawn grenades when they die, while another will make you take double damage in the air. These aren’t true endgame, but they can award end game tiers of items. Especially at the highest levels. Raids (and by extension dungeons) and the true endgame of pve. These take 6 people (3 in dungeons) to run though and coordinate certain mechanics to complete 4+ unique encounters (3 in dungeons) These mechanics can range from simple things (like standing on plates and avoiding AoE 1 shot kills to unlock a bosses shield) to complex (having players get 3/16 possible symbols and needing to decipher where the other players symbols are) or maybe just jumping puzzles. Tbh usually it’s some weird combo of the 3. They also tend to come with the best legendary stuff in the game, both weapon and armor wise, as well as a unique exotic that drops randomly (except 1 which is a quest exotic) Dungeons don’t have the best drops but they’re the mini raids of the game. Basically if you like dungeons, you’ll love raids. Shadowkeeps dungeon is a good place for upgrade materials but otherwise they’re just a tease for how good raids are.

 • Right! now i'm starting to get the hang of it. Its basically WoW Cataclysm all over again. I do think they could have made a better job of making it more apparent in-game. I mean i know the planets disappeared and stuff but i never realized they were previous playgrounds. I just thought it was the main premise from the get go - > Traveller, Big Bad Darkness, Missing Planets, Aliens, Shoot the aliens in the face. I'm a bit bummed i didn't get into this wonderful game earlier, but i'm definitely going to check out that youtube video. So thank you very much! • Yes literally Cataclysm but instead of being caused by Deathwing, it’s more like Yogg-Saron if he was an ethereal space god. It was definitely a “had to be there” moment as there was a live event/cutscene where the we saw the darkness cover these planets. It could’ve 100% been done better at explaining that to new players but we actually fully expect these areas to come back “revamped” in the future. Plus tbh they probably don’t expect many new players at this point. D2 is actually up there with WoW in terms of daily population. But if you’re interested in this type of story, you’ll love that video. Killing Gods, Space Wars, Mythical creatures and magical items. The games lore legit covers more genres than the Iliad/Odyssey. And enjoy the raids/dungeons! If you have any issue finding people to teach you the first run, just tell them you’ve done raids in WoW. Most will agree Destiny endgame is far easier than your 25-40 man raids in WoW. D2 raids might have some more mechanical difficulty in certain encounters, but team coordination between 6 people vs 25? It’s not even a contest lol.
