This, like sunsetting is an excuse for bungie to make the game easier to balance and maintain with a smaller dev team while they divert resources to other IPs while milking destiny for minimal effort and maximum profit. The only thing stats has to do with is them determining what to cut from the game - because things are getting cut either way
