You sure are doing a lot of judging, huh? Guess you're not one of those "cool" people you mentioned...

I’m not sure where the laws of fun say I have to like a genre. I don’t like most rap music, plain and simple. If that offends you I don’t care. I’m not judging you or your tastes, but merely clarifying my own. Prove me wrong though! Link a few rap songs and I’ll give them a listen. If you’ve got any that resemble older hip-hop then there’s a decent chance I’ll add them to a playlist.
Sorry, all out of salt.
Lmao. How about you list the artist you've listened to since you claim to be so well versed in the genre that you can stand by a ridiculous sweeping generalization.
-
Editado por Ghost Rider: 12/15/2020 7:42:41 AMDude I just tune into radio and (when I had it) SiriusXM channels. I’ve no clue what songs were played, it was a proper smattering. Like I said, I really don’t care about artists or albums; if I hear a cool song I’ll add it to a playlist. Edit: If it’s the generalization that offends you then I really don’t know what to say...as I said, music within a genre has to sound similar. It’s just how the cookie crumbles.
Sorry, all out of salt.
-
Then your opinion isn't well established on the matter like you claim. Ergo, don't make comments about an entire genre based on random shit you passively heard on the radio...
-
It’s not a random comment you hex wrench. I’ve not heard a single good modern rap song. Therefore the entire genre, insomuch as my reality and tastes are concerned, is objectively bad. Your entire argument thus far has basically been, “how dare you have an opinion” Sorry bro. Like I said, cool people listen to what we want and don’t care what others think. In my case, that tends to be hook-driven pop, rock, or dance music wherein the primary instrument is a guitar or synthesizer. Rap generally places a wavier emphasis on vocals and driving bass rhythms, which is just a turn-off for me. There are exceptions of course (I love a lot of older hip-hop), but as a general rule it holds true. Doesn’t mean I won’t blast the bass in my car if the mood crosses me, just that I doesn’t generally, because I don’t generally enjoy that sort of music.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I stopped reading at "objectively bad". Learn what objectively means. Also, I didn't say your comment was random. If you could read, I said you listened to random shit on the radio...

Editado por Ghost Rider: 12/15/2020 8:01:18 AM“If you could read...” Oh. Your wit has cut me. No, wait!!! It’s just my cat clawing my knee. Look, my command of English is solid. Objective essentially means ‘conforming to rules’. I have my subjective standards, but that means I can objectively judge music by those standards. It’s why Western cultural and communicative norms have objectively true or false qualities that would be completely asinine in an Asian culture or communicative climate. Therefore, had you read my post in its entirety, you’d realize that nothing I said was nonsensical or wrong...come to think of it, I’m the only one here really saying anything that’s not, “You’re wrong because I’m right.” 🤔 Edit: I wasn’t trying to utilize the word ‘random’ as a callback to your note about randomness, that was just how I crafted the sentence. I can see how it was confusing though. 👍
Sorry, all out of salt.
-
You may not be saying "you're wrong, I'm right" but you're definitely saying "hurr durr, itz muh openyun." which is why trying to add objectivity to it is ridiculous. There's nothing objective about anything you said.
-
Here’s the 101 version of everything I’ve said thus far. - Everyone has their own tastes. - Judging something solely by its creator is asinine. - Making a blanket statement about something to the extent you know about it is entirely and obviously different. (You seem to be failing to comprehend this bit.) - My subjective opinions lead me to form personal criteria by which I can objectively determine something to be good or bad. Any questions?
Sorry, all out of salt.
-
My point still stands. Your opinion is poorly formed and purely based on random shit you heard once on the radio -- random shit that you can't even list, (but I guess that's 'cause you've listened to so much of it, huh?) and have now decided that's what all modern rap is. Like I said, for someone keen on not judging, you sure have established some ridiculously judgemental opinions on an entire genre, but you do you, "bro".
-
It’s almost like a brick wall built a Bnet account... I’ve certainly listened to rap more than once...not sure where you got that little detail So what if I don’t know who sang the songs?? It’s not my fault that the songs were so forgettable I didn’t bother to write them down or listen to similar music. Finally, I said I don’t judge the people or artists for being who they are or having their specific quirks within a genre. That’s very different from holding an opinion about details that define a genre. E.G Most people dislike classical music and rarely listen to it (because they generally find stuffy and boring), but almost everyone loves specific classical songs in specific scenarios (national anthems, famous opera or ballet tracks at a theatre, etc). According to you, these people are all fools for not professing to love, or at least not hate, classical music even though the genre itself does not lend itself well to the modern ear in a casual setting. I don’t see a problem with them holding that view. That’s our disconnect.
Sorry, all out of salt.
🥱 Tl;dr
-
You can’t possibly expect to hold a logical debate and have it reduced to factoids and tl;dr’s. Either read and comprehend my argument in its entirety or you do yourself a disservice.
Sorry, all out of salt.
-
Right... I'm doing myself a "disservice" by not reading your verbose responses about your poorly formed opinion that you somehow think is objective.
-
Yes you are...at this point you’ve reduced yourself to repeating a singular attack line over and over since (evidently) my attempts to explain my views are too long-winded for your tastes. Before you say I’m full of it, I’ll note that you’ve not once tried to refute my explanation for subjecting a genre to judgmental criteria, which by definition makes those judgements objective. That means you’re not utilizing logical arguments, just repetitive acrimony. Ergo, disservice to attempts to keep this discussion civil and logical.
Sorry, all out of salt.
