*SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE BEYOND LIGHT CAMPAIGN*
So, at the end of the Beyond Light campaign, we go talk to Zavala one more time, and he says that even though we used Stasis to defeat Eramis, using the Darkness is forbidden, and that this is the "Vanguard's official position."
Except it isn't.
Zavala is in charge of Strike organization, Ikora with gathering intel, and Cayde-6 was responsible for gathering resources. The Vanguard makes regulations and boundaries for Guardians, yes, but without a Hunter representative to speak for the Hunters, the Vanguard can make no such official declarations.
In short, until they find a new Hunter Vanguard, Zavala can sit and spin for all I care.
We all know what will happen though. We will free Crow from the Spider, he will be forced to be the Hunter Vanguard per Cayde-6's Dare, and he will most likely advocate for it's regulated use, and I'm certain he will persuade Ikora to agree, leaving Zavala as the odd man out, as he has ALWAYS been.

Damn, I didn’t know there was a “Vanguard Official Rules and Regulations” lore book.
-
2 RespuestasYeah it's a bit of an empty threat isn't it, like what's he gonna do to my ultra powerful guardian if I continue to use it. Nothing 😎
-
7 RespuestasYou clearly aren’t aware that Zavala is literally the commander of the guardians, sure there’s the consenses and such when it comes to politics but Zavala is literally the supreme commander and outranks ikora and whoever the new hunter vanguard may be
-
The Titan Vanguard has always had the final say. This is why Ikora couldn't send troops with us during Forsaken.
-
I think Crow will break the Dreaming City curse
-
Caydes dare does not apply to crow.. A. Taniks was killed for the 4th time B. Taniks killed brask making the bet null n void therefore cayde never won C. Riven controls uldren .. He is used as a conduit to kill cayde.. So based off of the "dare" which wasn't put in place for both current & future hunters to abide by that would mean the guardian player is the hunter vanguard..
-
Heheheh, he tells me to do that, I’m going to have an ice sculpture for my victory party.
-
As Vanguard Commander, Zavala has both the authority and the force to back up his stance.
-
16 RespuestasDoesn’t Zavala lead the whole Vanguard? Been catching up on the Lore on the wikis, so I don’t know how accurate it is, but they seem to indicate that he’s not just the Titan Vanguard, but in charge of the whole the Vanguard.
-
Zavala is in charge of Strike organization
Zavala is the declared vanguard commander as Osiris was before. His word is law for the vanguard. They can easily have a new representative if he wants to step down, but if the vanguard fails to do so? Then the commander position will still be there.
-
7 RespuestasI’m pretty sure that the Vanguard is being gradually but effectively written out of the narrative. As it stands right now, it’s essentially an obsolete narrative mechanic. The Vanguard occupies no meaningful role in narrative progression. Narratively they don’t hold hold any sway over how our Guardian deals with any threat, no progression system worth speaking of other a tier 1 drop once a week, and even when our Guardian frequently directly goes against their directives theirs no tangible or moral consequences afterwards. Hell, forget about Cayuse, when’s the last time we even saw Ikora in a single cutscene or voiceover?

5 RespuestasThe only wrinkle with that idea is Crow being forced into the Hunter Vanguard spot. Sure, his body completed the Dare... But Cayde never Dared Uldren, couldn't have Dared Crow, and the vast majority of the Hunters would most likely have a problem with Crow being forced into it in the first place. Let alone that Crow inhabits the body of Uldren, probably the single most hated individual in the entire solar system by the Hunters. The mood whiplash will be wild if nothing else, should your prediction come to pass.
