So as I'm sure you've all guessed by now, I do a lot of research on Scorn
One day I decided to specifically delve into the Abominations, large hulking beasts of tortured flesh and tumors
Started off well enough; I learned that abominations are much like Screebs. Both are actually the result of too many revivals, and a Scorn combatant has about the same chance to turn into a screeb as (s)he does turning into an abomination
I went to some friends about my recent findings and we got to chatting. One of whom mentioned that it's rather interesting that Scorn and Hive both have a similar occurence. Scorn have abominations and Screebs, while Hive have Ogres and cursed thrall
I then got to thinking; perhaps this is more then just a coincidence? After all both Scorn and Hive utilize the Darkness in their creations, albeit in different forms. It's also interesting to note that both Ogres and abominations are made from the weakest combatant of their individual race (Stalkers and thrall)
Perhaps theirs a specific reason for this?
This may be a bit of a stretch but perhaps this mutation is purposeful rather then a matter of happenstance? Is it possible that the Darkness is "rewarding" weaker combatants for embracing its powers by turning them into these hulking monsters?
I know what you're thinking: "the Darkness believes in survival of the fittest, not rewarding those falling behind". However beings like the Hive started off from nothing, only to grow in power after embracing the Darkness. Now look at them, up until savathune started burning bridges they were the champions of the Darkness
So perhaps as a way of... Tempting weaker life, the powers of the Darkness have the inbuilt ability to mutate the user into a vastly stronger form? As a way of upgrading them into their own perfect shape? Stalkers and Thrall die by the hundreds, but an ogre and an abomination turn the tables drastically
Anyway, that was my little theory. I know I'm gonna get the obligatory "abominations are just reskined Ogres", but this is just for fun
Tell me what you think

1 RespuestaI wouldn't be surprised if Bungie's initial thought process when designing the Scorn was, what if we combined Fallen+Hive? Or enhance Fallen with Hive powers? Each combat unit does seem to be a mild sort of fusion between the two. Like what if we took a Dreg and fused him with a Cursed Thrall? We get a Screeb. Modify a Vandal with leftover Ogre parts, and it becomes an Abomination. Captain+Knight=Chieftan, etc.

3 RespuestasWhat about a Spliced Fallen that was resurrected by Scorn magic then Taken by Quaria THEN given Stasis powers?

In the Hive strike on the Tangled shore, Spider talks about the effect of ether on the Hive. "Make a captain, curse a thrall, poison a knight." Ether mixing with the dark in the Hive creates what your talking about. It has also been said that some ogres are fed light from guardians as part of an experiment.

1 RespuestaYou really need to get out more

55 RespuestasPlease correct me if I misunderstand what you meant but ogres are not so much thrall mutated by dark, they are tortured by wizards using the light. Also according to The Spider cursed thralls are made when you imbue a thrall with fallen ether not the dark

1 RespuestaI was told an abomination is a dreg that was mutated
-
1 RespuestaI think they just used old models and tweaked them to make scorn

5 RespuestasIt would certainly be odd, because the Darkness' MO is to ensure that the strong survive and the weak perish. You know, Sword Logic. Rewarding the "lesser" individuals would be the direct opposite of that. I wager that instead it's exactly what it sounds like: A curse. You no longer have the ability to rise through the ranks of society, and now your lot in life is to be used as merely a tool, a weapon, a beast of burden.
-
1 RespuestaThen the quest is, if the mutation is intentional, why do some become screebs and some become abominations? What's the difference between the two's precursor forms?

1 RespuestaYou’re right when you say they’re simply reskins, but they were reskinned intelligently. Your hypothesis is really good, and though the reasoning is mostly conjecture, in regards to it being a “reward” of sorts,I agree with most of what you are saying. Bungie needed to do something big, but couldn’t do much past a reskin. How do you make a reskin like this interesting? Well, just establish a set of rules within the universe that explain with lore as to why the scorn are just hive skinned Fallen. Or fallen skinned hive? Eh. You get it.

1 RespuestaI believe in the grimoire cards for each Taken unit back in D1 it specified each unit's weakness, and the Taken version uses an ability that erases said weakness. The proof lies in the Psions 😐

Editado por MC 077 Lasombra: 11/5/2020 1:13:04 PMWell the Krill morphed prior to embracing the Darkness. The Fallen also changed form, both in size and arms with the docking/reattaching thing with their social status. They are naturally prone to it. The common thread isn’t acceptance of Darkness. I mean there is no choice and once they are infused, it fills them with rage. Both the Hive and Scorn are driven by rage induced by the Darkness power. Maybe true acceptance is what allows them to overcome the rage and move up the ranks.
