They never owned the IP for the Halo games. That was one of the reasons they split with Microsoft. Their determination to keep the Destiny IP was one of the reasons they signed and then split with Activision. Activision was the only publisher that accepted Bungie's condition that they retain the IP rights, but they were never happy about it.
