• Don't overextend yourself. Don't peek lanes if there's a risk. Stick by your teammates, but don't be afraid to use alternate lanes and go for flanks. You'll be surprised how often you can catch enemies off guard when they're distracted by another engagement.

  • If you aren't a top tier sniper, or you get domed a lot, don't peek the lanes. Best advice is to understand where you're at as a player. If you know you lose more engagements than you win, you have to stop going into those engagements the same way expecting a different outcome. Teammate awareness is great. It's fun to get a flank in trials, but if all 3 notice and your teammates have no angles, you're then 3v1 and are almost guaranteeing a lost round. On that same note, don't play off your teammates. Play with them. Know when you're outgunned and get out of dodge. You can tell pretty early in a gunfight whether you're winning or losing. Nothing is changing that outcome so get back to cover. When one shot, don't peek and try to pull something off. If you're struggling now, you aren't at a level yet where you can hit peek shots without dying. Anticipate apes. It doesn't exist in higher level play unless you're outnumbered because reading radar and baiting a slide is too easy. If you peek a lane and see a red glare with nothing to challenge it at that range, leave it be. Maintain spawn awareness and enemy numbers. If your teammates are pushing and you guys just got a kill, push with them. Then note where you're all at on the map. The enemy will usually spawn in the safest part. Anticipation, clever challenges and neat footwork are the foundation of a good player. Gun skill is secondary Obligatory bow mention from a biased bow main: no turning back with an icarus grip and stompees makes it safe to challenge snipers at all ranges and find the most unique angles. Just think about your gameplay and don't repeat mistakes. You'll improve with time.
I’ve been frustrated with crucible and using a handcannon sniper combo my aim isn’t that good and my positioning is bad, I really need tips, please
Focus on your radar, run around the map to points of interest (zones, crests, power, etc.) with your eyes kind of glued to the top left corner of your screen. When a super pops as you spawn/they don’t really know where you are, CROUCH IT THE -blam!- OUT. They’ll likely not walk into a spawn where they can’t see radar activity and not know you’re there. If you’re struggling, follow a teammate around and help them teamshot and generally be a helpful presence. You’ll both benefit. You cannot control your teammates. If they’re braindead and hold w/forward, then use them as bait. If they want to play aggressive, let them and assist them in/clean up their kills. USE YOUR SUPER. SUPERS DO NOT TRANSFER OVER TO YOUR NEXT SESSION. A MAXED OUT YELLOW BAR MEANS YOU HAVE YOUR SUPER ABILITY. SUPERS WIN GAMES AND ARE INTEGRAL TO (obtaining) MAP CONTROL AND STEAMROLLS. I’ve honestly been getting back into hc after being an autorifle andy for the past 2 seasons and just play to their strengths. I recommend getting a higher impact sniper to run with your dire promise. Use Borealis, it’s really good and heavily slept on, unless you’re keen on that veist one for whatever reason. Also just use common sense and pay attention to sound queues honestly.

    • Biggest thing that will help you is just play, play, play. You’ll learn more about your habits and common player habits and how to expose and build off them. All this advice is worthless if you aren’t applying it and learning from mistakes. A gun or subclass or exotic Isent going to make you better, but just playing all the time will.

Play rumble. Seriously. It’s the absolute best game mode to play in to improve. It teaches you situational awareness, map movement and typically gives you lots of engagements. Regarding aim, just play and practise. That’s honestly the only way to improve it

    • Hey! The main tip I can give to you is to just play more. Don’t get discouraged. Don’t get salty about all the people using meta weapons in control. Just play to have fun! Even if you lose every gunfight you take, you’re still getting practice. Maybe one day you’ll miss all your hand cannon shots. The next day maybe you’ll hit one each gunfight. As you learn to control the recoil of your gun more, you’ll land more consistent shots. And, as you learn to hit a consistent headshot with a hand cannon, eventually you’ll be able to do that with a snipe. What I will say, is if you’re looking for tracking, try trace rifles. They help an awful lot.

Yo, I feel you. Honestly Pvp in this game is a mess. A good way to win more of your gun fights is to use auto rifles and also try shotgunning instead of sniping. Maybe you have more of an aggresive playstyle.

          • Go into private matches to learn names of map locations (name is on the left side of screen), good for callouts when you play in a team. That can help with map knowledge and then you can also practice jumps and how to travel around the map.     Playing in the mornings can be easier than in the evenings. My favorite is weekend mornings.     Using meta weapons and a strong offensive super definitely helps. Use what works, use want Bungie gives you that is strong and don't mind what people say about "cheap" weapons. Take what's yours!     If you cant find good people in LFG to play with, its probably because their skill level is better than yours (no offense meant), I also run into this issue. I have an approximate 1.2 KD and 1.7 KDA. I try to use solo matchmaking help me find friends. If you play some matches and you like one or two people you played with, send them a "GG" good game, and ask if they would like to party up and play together. Why I think this is a good idea, Bungie matched you up with them, they probably have a similar skill level and are in a similar spot in grinding glory.     Use bonus points to your advantage. If you play 3 games a week, you can get a 120 glory bonus. If you play all 12 weeks, that’s 1440 free points. You only need 660 points to get to fabled.     Practice in Rumble or QP new weapons and supers     Practice in Rumble your one on one skills. If you cant kill one person by yourself, it will be much harder for you to help out your team.  Maybe invite other people you see struggling in PvP and invite them to play private matches and work on one on one skills or 4 vs 4 or whatever. Grow together.   Probably common knowledge, If you are the only one with a super, that can be a great time to use yours. No one around to counter you easily with a super of their own. Also you start generating orbs for your team mates so they can get their supers going.     Watch Youtube strategy videos from Coolguy, True Vanguard, CammyCakes, Aztecross Gaming. Some of these guys even have their own Discord channels where you can LFG with their fans. I had good success with Coolguys.     Some videos to improve game play.     https://youtu.be/74e3mByi0d0     https://youtu.be/sHqiawMXHtI https://youtu.be/3lkQ5ovg4t4     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3RXO22ct2w     https://youtu.be/hRrLSbizeKk     https://youtu.be/oEqrWYQMoAM     Super Mods, weapon scavenger perks, targeting Mods, Reload Mods, Dexterity and resilience Mods. Masterwork armor for more defense while in super form.     On console, I use jumper controls. It allows me to punch and jump without having to take my thumb off of the look stick (practice new controls in pve, try doing a jumping punch (or shotgun) on someone's head). I also use an Elite controller, it allows me to put a button on the bottom of the controller so I can crouch or slide without taking my thumbs off the sticks. I recently started putting a button under the controller for the action button so I can shoot while I revive or disactivate a bomb and not be a sitting duck. The elite controller allows me to play other games and make the button layout identical to destiny so my buttons don't get mixed up in my head.

            • As a few others have mentioned, learn the maps. Learn what angles give you an advantage or disadvantage as a sniper, get used to where there is suitable cover. Get used to tue recoil direction of your weapons as well as their effective ranges. Also mess with other weapon types. It is always good to have alternates for different maps. Especially with a sniper, not all maps will have ideal lanes and may be too close quartered.

            • Key is practice practice practice. With both those weapon type you want to be hitting heads so work out heights specifically of peek corners as if you miss that initial headshot you could fall prey to a good scout/pulse user. Same for HCs without those headshots most decent primary's will melt a hc body shooter. I run Nature of the beast every now and then and by hitting heads will often beat even 600 auto users, as alot of them just spray the body. Key is movement, don't stand still even when sniping unless you find you are playing against poor players that always take the same route. Know the head heights of sniping lanes and ambush where possible. I find with something like Jade rabbit or Graviton Lance if I get the first shot in 8ish/10 times I'll beat the sniper. So be wary a half decent scout/pulse will still be challenging. Most of all don't be predictable constantly camping the same spot will lead to being flanked or a good opponent will peek shoot you as they know where you are. Good luck fellow Guardian

I'm not the best player or anything. I hardly take PvP seriously, but I know how to sweat if I need to. Some quick tips: 1. Play every day you can. Record and watch your gameplay. Ask yourself what you did wrong, what you did right, why you did it, and what you could do better after your engagements. 2. Don't rely on your special weapon. Focus on primary play as much as you can. You'd be surprised how many situations a good primary can get you out of. Unequip a special weapon if you have to. 3. Stay close to cover. If you can't get to cover when you take damage, you're too far from cover. Every time you get ready to challenge, as yourself where your cover is. 4. Find someone better than you and watch them. Ask yourself what they did and why they did it. 5. Pace your shots at first. Prioritize accuracy over speed. Speed will develop on its own. Don't rush your shots. 6. Learn the abilities of your class and their strengths and weaknesses. Maybe from tip 4. 7. Pay attention to your radar and all its levels, sound queues, visual queues, etc. Proceed to step 8. 8. Formulate a plan and execute for each engagement. Whether you succeed or not, repeat tip 1. Eventually you'll start to plan and execute naturally without much thought. 9. Don't give up. Be patient. If you get frustrated, take a breath, take a break, and come back with a clear head. 10. Have fun. Don't sacrifice fun for any meta or some frustrating opponent. Good luck!

                • I'm not entirely certain on how to help with aim other than to suggest that you practice. I will say something that makes sense but isn't necessarily mentioned all that often is crosshair placement. Always try to keep your crosshair where you know your opponent's head will be, so you have less repositioning to do once they do eventually appear. For positioning, I can give more advice. Always, always, always give yourself an escape route. If you need to run for literally any reason, you always want to be able to break line of site as soon as is possible, and if you're being chased, as often as is possible. If you disengage weak and your opponent is still alive, don't just hang around the corner, you gotta go. They might have a grenade, and you don't want to just give them a free kill. Always keep in mind how many angles you're exposed to, and what your radar tells you is a populated area. Goodluck out there my man

Play with something else. Seriously. You're clearly trying to build a playstyle on weapons that are considered "cool"....but they are clearly not playing into your strengths as a player. While I'm good with hand cannons, I've always sucked at being a sniper. I also don't like the relatively passive play style that goes along with being a sniper. I perfer a more mobile play style, where I find myself fighting at mid-range. That requires me to have to come up with a way of dealing with shotgunners and snipers. So I tend to carry a shotgun on smaller maps, and fusion rifles on larger maps to counter. As for improving your gun skill. ALWAYS GO FOR HEAD SHOTS. PVE play will generally allow you to get away with a high percentage of body shots or misses. PVP won't. PVP is a DPS race...and he who lands the most headshots with the greatest reliability wins. Hand cannons and Snipers are VERY unforgiving of misses. So if you're somone who is struggingly with PRECISION...then those are not the weapons you want to be using. You just handicap yourself trying to uphold an imag.e Positioning is play style dependant. But for starters you want to learn the traffic patterns on a map...and then decide if you want to play "inside out" or "outside in". By "inside out", that means you largely position yourself in the middle of the map and shoot at enemies out towards the edges. Many of the Y2 D2 maps almost FORCE you to play this way, because the central areas of the map are so powerful and have so few avenues of approach. By outside in, that means you work around the edges of the map, and shoot at enemies towards the middle. I tend to play this way... especially on maps where the middle is very crowded and have lots of chokepoints and blind corners where you can get either team shot or ambushed with shotguns. In my experience more aggressive players tend to play outside-in. Passive snipers will also tend to play outside in. But passive shotgunners tend to play inside-out (corner crouchers).

                    • If your aim is not so good, why not use easier weapons? 600rpm Auto rifles are doing fine, positioning is not that hard, all you gotta do is stop going for flanks all by yourself. Learn to use walls for cover and learn to peek shoot, get yourself a high impact shotgun to deal with rushers and always activate a roaming super behind walls. This game is really easy, we have radar always on so use that to reposition yourself or bait shotguns, just play the game and try not to engage more than 1 person all by yourself unless you are confident in your ability to take down multiple players by yourself. I always find it really easy to do well simply staying near teammates and having them run in first, that way enemies focus that guy and you can get easy kills without taking any fire.

                    • I understand. When the recluse came out, it took me a long time to get it in comp, so every game I used the same load out of thorn or last word and the lone survivor or mindbenders. If you just use the weapon you want to get good with for a while, you will get accustomed to it and get better. It takes time to get better with weapons that you are unfamiliar with.
