You say this like Bungie won't add more weapons as they go.
No, Beyond Light will not add "500 new weapons". But it will add enough weapons that we'll have decent options to choose from. Not only this, but legendary weapons and below are the only things sunsetting will have an effect on, so exotics of all kinds are still fair game.
Besides, if you're so hooked on your specific legendaries that sunsetting bothers you, or if you put so much of your life into this game that "but they're undoing our hard work!" is an argument you put stock in, then you REALLY need to get out more and have a life outside of Destiny.
EDIT: I would also like to add that you say "a few dozen" like it's a small amount. Bare minimum for "a few" is 3, let's say for sake of argument that the max is 5. One dozen is 12.
Assuming the lowest possible amount with those numbers, we're talking 36 new weapons. 36 new weapons is enough for 4 new shotguns, 4 new ARs, 4 new grenade launchers, 4 new hand cannons, 4 new sidearms, 4 new rocket launchers, 4 new swords, 4 new fusion rifles, AND 4 new machine guns.
But here's the thing, bungie RARELY does anything that evenly. So we're looking at something closer to this: 7 new ARs (8 if no new MGs), 1 new machine gun (if any), 2 new grenade launchers, 5 new rocket launchers, 3 new swords, 2 new fusion rifles, 6 new shotguns, 6 new sidearms, 6 new hand cannons.
Obviously that's not going to be accurate to what they do but it's more likely than 4 of each weapon type.
Now, let's assume the highest amount. That's SIXTY new guns. Nearly double the amount. This would give the opportunity for a much more balanced spread of weapons.
So don't say "a few dozen" like it's a small number. Compared to 500, it is. But here's the thing: those 36-60 new weapons will be viable for at least a year. And in that time, Bungie will be adding more and more and more weapons as they go with each new season.
"A few dozen" will be hundreds before this time next year.

"A few dozen" will be hundreds before this time next year.
Fair argument, but it is little more complicated than that I think. First of all, a few dozen isn't much when it compares to 500 no matter how you look at it. However, it wasnt like we were using all of the weapons in the loot pool either. Nevertheless, this brings us to the real issue. A few dozens can be enough for players if they are all decent choices If the viability of those weapons are somehow evenly distributed for PvE and PvP And if the weapons Bungie bring in are in line with meta archetypes unless they do nice sandbox change to accommodate the new weapons pool Now there are a lot of ifs for this to end anywhere near good for players. Because numbers don't lie, there is a lot higher chance of more weapons being useful when you have 500 piled up through out the years. The chance how many of them being actually useful in a weapon pool with only 60 weapons or 100 is questionable. Unless Bungie's goal is to reduce the quality of the loot to make it seem like even above average weapons are God like then that's another way too. There is also issue with elemental damage for special and heavy weapons. Our choices will be quite limited when it comes to what we can use and that's not because we haven't acquired it yet, but because there isn't an option with that combination in the game anymore.

Well Beyond Light is mixing everything up as we know it It may not be out of the ballpark to think they may even add perks that cause energy weapons to deal different damage types based on certain factors (a perk that makes it match the type of subclass you're using, or a perk similar to an existing one where throwing your grenade temporarily changes the damage type) you know?

Dumb argument. You can have life and still put in ridiculous hours. Not too mention that the "hard work" line is subjective and would vary wildly from person to person. Think about it. The game is 3 years old. Just an hour a day is over 1000 hours invested.
-
Yes but to care so deeply about something that doesn't even matter in the short-term, let alone the long term, is just...dumb, for lack of a better word.
-
What does or doesn't matter isn't up tp you, though. And it does matter both long term and short term. Shyort tterm we lose alot of choices, fav guns, ettc. Long term it means less new content and more old content labelled as new. Not sure why a gamer investing tiime into this game thinks that doesn't matter. Between Dyling Light and fall 2021 the vast majority of content will be either D1 content or DCV content. That isn't good.

Who gives a shit? Let people play with what they enjoy. If you want to play with something then go ahead
PS plz not another novel 😂
-
I'll type however much I want. Who gives a shit? Let me reply the way I enjoy. If you don't want to read a novel, don't read my reply. All seriousness and all pettiness aside, if you played nearly as much Crucible as I have, you'd be tired of seeing the exact same weapons again and again a thousand times a day. It's not about controlling what others use. It's about wanting to see people use something new.
-
What makes you think the weapons are going to change? Given bungies track record the new weapons were getting will just be reskins of what we have now. Nothing will be different but how the weapons look, so crucible will still be just as annoying as it is now
-
Because even if they perform the same job, HOW they perform it is different, and that means the weapons need to be used in different ways. Revoker and Ice Breaker perform the same job, but Revoker doesn't generate a shot from nothing every 4 seconds, so you actually do need to get Special at some point instead of just super-camping. Weapons can do the same thing in new ways, without being played the same way.
-
But that's the thing, no weapons perform differently except for exotics and pinnacles. Dire promise and Spare Rations play the exact same, maybe a lil stability difference. And it's that way with all weapons. Gnawing hunger, summoner galiard etc. They play the same
-
I'd still rather die to a new weapon than the same weapon for the millionth time. It's mostly the concept.
-
Lol I deserved that. Honestly, I'm willing to bet I've played just as much crucible if not more than you. I'm not bothered at all by what other players use and don't care if they change it up or not. I played a ton of SWAT in Halo(s)for years and the variation of weapons is very tiny but I still love the hell out of it.
-
I, and tons of others, prefer a variety and that causes crucible to be too monotonous for us.
-
Sunsetting will not create variety though
-
It won't create it but it'll encourage it. And with the addition of Beyond Light weapons, we'll likely see new things in crucible anyways
-
THEN WHY DOES IT MATTER?! 😂
