You expect a non troll answer when you outright call anyone who has ever played a loot game a white knight or fanboy? How about to spend some time outside of destiny, inside the loot game genre. Besides 3 out of the 300 loot games out, they all have gear resets. Be it a new season, or expansions. If grinding loot in a game that's all about grinding loot is upsetting you. Then leave. The thought process behind "i know where the game is going and i don't like it, but ill keep playing anyway" just baffles me. Yall are -blam!-ing full blown anomalies. To yourself. To us.

  • Wow, its almost like other looter shooter games does the whole thing way better than destiny 2 has ever done. Borderlands 3 might take away guns because they raise the level cap every DLC, but they also add plenty of new guns and plenty of new anointments for EVERY gun. They don’t say that ‘hey dude, that gun you like from base game? Its capped now, you can still use it and grind for it, but its not effective for anything new anymore’ Sunsetting in its self is pretty trashy, but lets give it the benefit of the doubt and say all those guns with the same perks and all those armor sets with ok rolls from the last 4 years cause “problems” and need to be put away. The smart decision is to release a MASSIVE update with a plentiful amount of things to grind for with new possible perks to give people a drive. Remember when the S14 grenade launcher came out that had a new frame. It might have just been a wave grenade re-skin, but it introduced a new frame with potential. You know what content we actually get? Less than 14 ‘new’ guns with the EXACT same stats and perks and 50+ guns from previous seasons you have to re-farm. “That austringer doesn’t have the new symbol on it? Sorry but you can’t use it with new/endgame content cause we said so.” Destiny devs are just god damn lazy. Proof is apparent and abundant. so defend them all you want, but you can’t say they actually try anymore.

  • I literally said not one loot game does everything right. There is ESO just a few months back forced players to refarm sets rather tha retroactively fix them. Diablo has ladder resets where at times all you get is bug fixes and buffs or nerfs. If you wanna talk about Borderlands and how it's system actually hurts the game we can. I'm not defending bungie, I'm defending the idea of gear resets. Bungie doesn't have a perfect system, but neither does anyone else. Yes some do it better, but bungie also has systems in place that are far superior to other loot games, going as far back as menagerie.

retiring guns in the infusion era of destiny makes zero sense, its forced. it was fine in D1 when Il was tied to activities, you do a raid, you get a top tier weapon with the max Il for the time. its also like a trophy. if they go back to that id accept it. But now in D2s infusion system, you get a gun, need to spend tons of mats infusing/masterworking to get it at its best. fine when farming your fav guns & spending resources was yours to keep in the end. But now they are like temporary rentals you got to still pour mats into to reach max potential, then when they do...retired. ( and I don't see " u cAn sTiLl uSe thEm In oLd CoNtenT" as a good argument) using and collecting my fav weapons in the activities I want to use them in, along with the chase to acquire the best versions of them is a big part of why I play destiny. the sunsetting system they got in place makes things feel disposable, and would loose drive to go after anything other than higher IL, id just use whatever till something better drops randomly. without the collecting and using my fav weapons as part of the D2 experience, it would just leave content & activities as only thing to play for, and that alone gets old quick with how its been. Bungie could easily just promote old pinnacles to exotic, add new seasonal mod slots to new weapons that old ones can't get, or just add new guns just AS POWERFUL as old ones. no power creep, simply more top tier viable choices. all options that would be better. destinys loot has a feel and life to it, the gunplay in destiny has always been great. so loosing peoples favorite items isint comparable to a game like wow where loot is just a stat stick (but even in wow gear lvl is tied to activities... like D1) but how it is, its more like if in GTA5, being told everything you grinded for, cars guns jets etc.. & used when u want. is being removed or can only be used for a year and then taken away. and this is coming from someone who stopped playing at season of undying. I was wanting to come back because I missed using my old guns, till I learned about sunsetting.....so u can go ahead and check my last time played too lol. this sunsetting will effect players who feel investment in items they worked for

  • Lol you probably get to play 10+ hours a day and like grinding the, not similar, but EXACT same weapons. Bungie doesn’t make new stuff, and the fact you can’t even see that is baffling to me. Your comment is a joke buddy, defending shows how much you defend lazy content.

  • Another classic. Keep the assumptions coming dude, you're killing it. Tbh I come from quite an extensive history with loot games. Going back to the early days of ultima online, around 1998 into today. Ive played all ranges of mmorpgs. Buy to play. Free to play. Subs. Pay to win. A combo of a few. All of them. So yeah, the grind has always been the hook. 95% of those grinds had gear resets, expansions that made your +10 armor that took you 4 months to upgrade worse than the first green quest item you got from the first mission. So when I say you have no idea what you're talking about. I mean that quite literally. About me. About loot games and how they should be developed. And don't twist it, because let's face it you seem great st that already. I have no idea what a perfect loot game looks like. Each game I've played has always had issues that you just dealt with. But you didn't spend more time -blam!- about the game than actually playing it. You either enjoyed it until you didn't, or just didn't. That says alot about you tho.

Awe, did I upset the old man, who thinks because he plays other “kinda” similar games he has authority over my opinion? Wow. People play this game for the weapons and gameplay. That’s it. You take away their weapons, and activities, and people rage. You just enjoy grinding the same stuff over and over, that’s the difference between you and me.

  • If its not broken, don't fix it. We've spent since HoW trying to tell bungie how to make their game. And here we are. Back at where we started. If you dont like loot games, don't play them. Its not any harder than that.

  • Back at the start at the request of no one. People like Destiny for Destiny, people want to see Destiny get better, become something amazing, reach the potential it laid out 7 years ago. It won't get there trying to be a haphazard copy of other loot games you might as well play instead.

  • Yes everyone wants destiny to become amazing... So, how do I say this exactly. How many people stuck it out with this game? Each and everyone one of us wants destiny to be amazing right? And yet we all have different opinions. The game will never be amazing, the best bungie and we as a community can do is try to keep the game healthy in all the aspects of the game that make it destiny. The reason he and I will defend sunsetting is because this is a loot game and the formula has been used successfully by pretty much all the other loot games out there.

Meanwhile, with Destiny, it has not and literally has no reason to. Just because other games can do it right doesn't mean Destiny can, nor that it should try.

An exotic they nerfed (and brought back a year later), a sniper they nerfed (and made exotic), and an Arc Hand Cannon with an actually good firefly. Great "example".

  • It was still the most used loadout in the game, and was more or less required for most endgame activities. Don’t claim they shouldn’t “try” it when they already did it in their most successful expansion to date.

  • Required: No. And changing the meta isn't an accomplishment, as people just go to the next, big whoop. A good expansion overall doesn't just make one negative aspect about it okay. Especially when that expansion ultimately left behind far less than what will be now, and didn't permanently leave the relevant gear count at a fraction of what once was, as it will now (roughly 15-20%). There is a different context to consider with TTK, don't completely ignore it if you're going to reference it. Things are different now.

Lol you clearly didn’t play D1Y1. Making it where I could actually raid was very much a big deal to me. It was very much required, to the point that I would either get kicked or not even allowed in most raid teams because I didn’t have a gally for most of Y1. Actually you’re wrong because EVERY LEGENDARY IN THE GAME was left behind as well as a majority of exotics. And not “left behind” in the sense that you could still use them in the majority of activities (like D2’s sunsetting) you couldn’t even use them in heroic strikes or anything after the first 2 story missions. if my math is right it was just over 400 items, meanwhile with sunsetting in D2 a little over 500 items will be effected (unless you want to count blues and greens) so not that big of a difference. While yes they replaced the majority of items in Taken King, you don’t really know how many new items are coming in Beyond Light do you? So this point is moot.
Lol you clearly didn’t play D1Y1.
Wow...really pulling for the tiniest straws possible there. It wasn't a requirement to complete. It was the meta. Something random groups are going to pull at you for. See, when you have an actual group of friends, your ass isn't out the door over a single weapon. Destiny Raids are more about not dying than the fastest completion methods.
Not sure where I was wrong as I never said everything wasn't. Quantitatively speaking, We're losing far more than TTK, and on top of that aren't ever reaching that height again. The number of available activates old stuff will be relevant will be roughly the same, albeit just as insignificant. There was hardly even 400 things to leave behind pre-TTK. Now we're talking almost 600 guns and over 1000 pieces of armor over the course of 3 years, as opposed to just 1. The difference is massive.
While yes they replaced the majority of items in Taken King, you don’t really know how many new items are coming in Beyond Light do you? Pretty much can guess by this point. One can only wonder how much is just reissued.

I won't pay for that service, I'll play for F R E E, and refuse to grind for gear. Doesn't sound that bad to me.

  • That’s fine with me. If you want to play like a casual then go for it. It’s not like your 80$ a year a saving the company. Neither is mine. It’s the millions of quiet players that log on everyday and enjoy the game without listening to the crying of the forums. The people who watch streamers and youtubers in the background while they play. The raid sherpas and speed runners. It’s certain not just this forum. The maybe 3k active users on this forum could all quit and the game still wouldn’t drop under a million daily players (especially when about 1/5 of you don’t play as it is)

Negative. Am I alone in my sentiments? Absolutely not. And you can take that casual mentality and shove it right up your ass. I'm just as competitive as anyone.
