Just to be clear, Coldheart isn't a cold themed weapon. The reason why it got its name is because its expending sooo much energy so fast that it's surface rapidly cools and forms frost as it fires. Bungie got the physics right on that aspect.

Combustion of all kinds distributes energy in all directions equally even if it has to take in some. No reaction is both hot and cold at the same time. This is not functionally how laser cooling works either. You see this phenomenon in high velocity liquids but it can't happen with energy because a lack of momentum and dispersion. If this was true you'd be able to solve the problem of continuous fire liquid lasers instantly. I might just be grievously misinformed but I can't find anything online, it would be incredibly useful to me if you could redirect me.

Have you ever witnessed frost forming on a propane tank as it was expending it's gas at a rapid rate? I have. I've helped put on a tar roof that required a blowtorch that used propane as the fuel. As we used the torch to heat up the tar sheets the tank was forming frost around it's base and grew as we went. This happens when energy is transferred from point to another quickly. In this case condensed propane gas leaving the tank. We even feel this with our sweat, that cooling sensation when we fan our-sweaty-selves. It feels cool and refreshing as we transfer that heat off.
