D2 Network issues are atrocious..

I've never had as many issues in any game (including early access steam games) as I do Desitny 2. Destiny 1 performed fine, fairly stable networks, the bugs and exploits I've experienced were few and far between and the hacking wasn't as rampant. Why does Destiny 2 fall so hard on the technical end of it? I can deal with some of my latter complaints but constant connection issues, dropped games, getting repeatedly booted to orbit when trying to simply get to the tower for bounties. When Bungie was still in contract with ActiBlizz and D2 was still launching thru the Blizzard launcher I experienced none of these issues. Where did the technical competence of the game go when moving over to steam? I can put up with the bugs, exploits, and cheating because I can still actually play the game. But the me myriad of networking issues breaks it. Bungie... Of the multitude of online games I play regularly yours is the only one that causes issue. All of my friends have the same networking issues. I can't continue to recommend your games to others with the current state of Destiny 2.

  • What model of router do you use? I think I solved the issues I've been seeing. I have a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 which apparently UPnP has been broken in the last few firmware releases so I downgraded to a 2019 version. Also make sure you're either using UPnP OR port forwarding. They have conflict issues when both are enabled. If you're using UPnP make sure your PC or Console isn't set to a static IP. In my case, my PC was statically assigned and UPnP just didn't work. Depending on your router you can check this by starting Destiny, loading into the tower then login to your router and navigate to the UPnP page. There should be a UPnP portmap there that shows what ports are active. Feel free to send me a message and we can do some troubleshooting if you'd like.

    • To be honest, today it's been horrible. Like... it's kicking me out every 5 minutes literally. With my friends we couldn't even complete a single mission in the whole day. Is Bungie even aware of this? Could you please revise latency and such? It's working atrociously bad! Thank you!

    • I have the same issue. Non-stop Beaver errors since this season started. I have no issues in any other game. NAT type is open I've gone through all of their troubleshooting guides and nothing really works. Its going to be hilarious when they attempt to enable cross-play. They're answer is always 'looking into it' but we haven't heard anything about it in any of the TWAB posts. Its easy for them to blame your ISP, which is obviously false since I don't have any issues with any other game. Just tried playing Iron Banner with a buddy and I got Beavers about 10 seconds in, finally gave up after 3 matches of constant disconnects. Things I've tried but haven't had much luck with: Updating firmware on my router, tried a second router that I keep as a backup, connected my PC directly to the modem, port forwarding. I'll have to capture some traffic and see whats going on when I get disconnected. The other day I dusted off my Xbox and fired that up, I wasn't thinking about it at the time but I didn't get disconnected there. I'll have to suffer through the atrocious 30 fps on xbox and try a couple matches of Iron Banner. Maybe its an issue with Steam.

      • Is it weird that I configured my router in such a way that I have 0 issues? But you also have to remember that every isp, every modem/router, is configured differently. Consoles seem to get it the worst because of how restrictive their own coding can be.
