A problem no one is talking about...

Bungie said they will be reintroducing older content from Destiny 1 into Destiny 2 (which is great) but they also said they don't want Destiny 2 to take up too much storage space... Which means they will be removing content (that we payed for) from Destiny 2 and replacing it with older content, with their "Destiny content vault". I really don't like this for a number of reasons. 1. If they remove content that we have payed for, does that mean when they reintroduce it back into destiny 2 will we have to pay for it again? 2. If the problem is with storage size, why do PC players need to worry about having the content removed? Why not give them the choice to keep and remove some of their payed DLC (like other games do). 3. They haven't specified what content will be removed. Will it be restricted to locations? Or will our loot we have spent ages grinding for be removed as well? If they can't physically manage having this much content in the game, then fine, but I'm concerned they are going to remove DLC we already payed for (Mars, Mercury, and the tangled shore) and will just bring it back later at a price. I get destiny 1 content should be payed for (some didn't even play destiny 1 to begin with) but not Destiny 2 content.

  • In other words, they are destroying D2 content to bring back D1 content that we could've gone back and played anytime if we wanted to. This is not the way.

    1. Unless Bungie is literal EA scum, I doubt they would do that, and everyone would call them out for it. 2. Not really how that works. While I’m not going to say I know how it actually does work, I’d assume it’s because it’s not entirely the person’s storage space is at fault for, well, not having enough storage. For one, since they (Destiny and Bungie themselves) came from console, I doubt they optimized this with the foresight of moving to PC as well. That’s why there’s things like loading walls, actual verticality compared to other MMOs, among other things. Destiny, since it’s just a much more graphics-consuming game compared to something like SWTOR, most likely will have no way to fully remove a DLC for a player by clicking a button, sadly. 3. No. While they will get sunset, the gear you earn will stay, but the destinations and activities will most likely disappear. Edit: Spelling.

    • To me, it didn't sound like the things they vault will be gone forever. They will remove it for a little bit, fix it up a bit to make it "fresh" and bring it back when needed. So if they bring back a whole planet for example (where most of the stuff on it is free to play) it shouldn't cost you anything unless they add a new activity or event that's attached to the new season.

      • Pretty sure they have said what’s being removed, locations and strikes/raids located on them. No you aren’t going to pay for them, as every patrol area is free to all players.

      • To me it seems like the OG Content is being used because of thier Viability. Erimis originated from Devil's. Devil's home turf was the Cosmodrome. Makes sense to go back. Another, the VOG Raid being brought back could be around longer than we know. It all comes down to we just don't know, and we live in a society of we need to know everything right now. • 1. They’re not just replacing it with old D1 stuff. We’re also getting brand new D2 locations (Europa in the fall and likely others later). Also it’s basically a given that content that returns out of the vault will be free. Everything in the marketing for Beyond Light is strictly the new locations and makes zero mention of the Cosmodrome or VoG. 2. Because the size isn’t just about hard drive space. They went into extensive detail about how the size of the game is decreasing performance in the engine and making testing very difficult as there are so many places and variables. And PC is already a different sandbox so complicating that further by also having different environments would exacerbate that problem. 3. They were very specific that things removed were locations and their related quests, stories, and playable space. They also specified that if those places serve as a source for particular exotics or catalysts, that those specific items will be given a new source. Therefore it’s entirely safe to assume that no gear will be removed from your character or vault (also they’ve literally never taken weapons or gear from people so I don’t really know why you would be afraid that they would to begin with).

        • Another problem is for newer players just getting into the game... what are your plans for the story and missions that take place on any planets that will be gone? Seriously, just put newer shit that we’re gonna have to pay for on an expansion stand-alone disk

          • 1) you pay for access to the world of destiny. Your loot is yours but the world bungie's to transform as they wish. 2) they play on cross platform next year letting content stay on pc that diesnt on console wouldnt wirk 3) it's not a device storage issue it's the engine issue. That's why it cant support the size it's trying to.

          • They answered every question here other than the PC one in the "building a viable future" post To answer the PC one, that's a dumb idea because it's always online, the game needs to have the same loot pools, same activities, it would just be stupid to let people keep some stuff and make a headache for developers.

              1. No, you won't have to pay for it again. 2. Because the objective is to go to cross-play next year and to make it that way just to disable it later is asinine. Also, probably because they don't want to make one platform have such a visible benefit over the others content wise. 3. They have specified what is being taken out. The loot you have acquired now will stay in your inventory. Mars, Io, Titan, Mercury will all be leaving the game for now. Some of the less played raids will be taking a year off. Last Wish, GoS, and the new raid will be the ones staying. The rest will be vaulted. Next year, we will be seeing VoG return and probably a new raid as well. This was all discussed in the reveal. As far as I am aware all of the Destiny 1 Content that is coming back that is confirmed will be free. [That basically just being VoG].

                • You have a good point about potentially having to pay for DLC like Mercury or Tangled Shore twice. Surely they wouldn’t try to pull anything like that though.

                      1. Yes, you will have to pay for it, but not directly. It will be bundled into later expansions alongside new locations and other locations will go into the vault. That way, bungie only has to create 1 new locale and reskin another, but still charge the same price. 2. Bungie has shown again and again an unwillingness or inability to separate pc and console, thus the nerfs to some weapons for the benefit of pc community, but to the detriment of console players. They will take away from pc now so console players don't feel cheated. If they succeed in implementing true cross platform play, they will have to standardize the game. 3. Through sunsetting and nerfs, your weapons and armor will soon be obsolete, anyway.
