Umbral engram issues
My dad neglected the starting drifter quest, until his inventory was full of umbrals which he couldn't decode. I got him to do it but he's at the quest step where you need to claim a umbral from the drifter, but it won't let him because his inventory is full. It will not let him dismantle one either, nor can he abandon the quest to try and fix it. If there is a known fix please let me know and if not please fix this.

This is an issue that Bungie is currently working on. One workaround that I know of is to progress the quest on a second character to the point where drifter gives you the umbral engram for free. Once you decode that, you should have the ability to dismantle the engrams. You can then go back to your main character and should be able to dismantle the engrams. I hope this helps.
