“Oh yeah that’s cool! Also easier then stabbing yourself.” Blaze says. He then pulls out a sniper rifle. “This is what I need help with. Let me give you a demonstration.” He sends lightning into the gun, and suddenly looks slightly worse for wear, bags under his eyes becoming slightly more pronounced. He fires the gun at his feet, and you notice the area looks.... like it was shocked.

Sapphire grabbed the bridge of her nose. “This is why all magitech catalysts are equipped with mana safety limits. Casting magic without restraint is going to lead to all sorts of physical side effects, such as...” Sapphire starts going off on a list of all sorts of very unpleasant sounding things.
-
“Wow, you don’t even know how I make the lightning. It is quite literally made from my cells energy. That besides the point, though.”
-
“Exactly! Why are you doing that, it’s so irresponsible! You’re going to get yourself seriously hurt, if not outright killed!”
-
“Look, that’s besides the point. It only affects me after three casts without resting. I’ve just had a busy day today. I wanted to talk about help with the gun.”
-
Sapphire sighed. “You old schoolers are so stubborn. Magitech is so much more efficient, and less dangerous. But, okay, fine, what did you need?”
-
“You saw what happened right? How I fired, and where the bullet hit was electrified? I’m wondering if you know how I could do this,” Blaze shows the bullseye with a hole through it, “with a water based element.”
-
“Oh, that’s simple. Water can make a surprisingly clean cut if you move it quickly enough. Keeping it in line with the bullet could probably be achieved by a simple convergence program. The bullets would just need to go through a special chamber to enchant them first, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you build a small catalyst directly into the gun. The forward force of the bullet should be plenty as is, so you just need to channel the water into a certain shape so that you’re not just shooting a bubble. If we’re already putting a catalyst into the gun, we could probably have it fire off two programs at once, with the second one molding the mana pathways, forcing them into a mold. We’d want something aerodynamic of course, but with all the extra mass we probably will slow down the bullet a bit, but the extra cutting power from a spinning water drill should be more than enough to make up for it, and a drill shape would likely work for other elements just fine as well. Honestly, a middle schooler could do it!”
-
“I don’t think you realize what simple is. Because that is not it.”
-
“Eh.. Basically, you want to build an SP catalyst into the gun that fires off two spell programs whenever it absorbs an element. One to bind the element to the outside of the bullet, and another to shape it, probably into a miniature drill. Of course, SP catalysts would also require staying within a mana safety limit, so it would slow down the number of enchanted bullets fired back to back, despite the increased efficiency.”
-
“That sounds..... difficult, especially with an already made gun.”
-
Sapphire laughed. “Not at all! You underestimate the power of modern technology! You would need to take apart the gun a little bit, but there are plenty of magitech guns out there, so finding the right catalyst should be a piece of cake. Convergence spell programs are also pretty standard, and run of the mill, any catalyst should be able to use one, but the mold program will probably need to be custom made.”
-
“Alright. So do we need to find a catalyst, or make it, or what?”
-
“Well you can make one, but your best bet would be to find a magitech store, as long as your gun uses any regular gun parts. If ir’s a bit more unique, you’d need it custom built, obviously, but I can’t help you there. I don’t have a permit.”
-
“Do you know how to actually make one? Because I might have materials if I’m lucky.”
-
“That’s illegal. I’m not helping you break the law.”
-
“Well there’s a dead end. While I’m here, how has Six been doing?”
-
“That’s not a dead end. You just need to visit a shop. Custom catalysts are a little expensive, but they’re out there. Anyway, Six and I have been.. Mostly the same. There was a little bit of fluctuation in our anima network that rose a bit of concern, but for the time being we’ve got it solved. We’re not sure if this spell program is just a temporary patch or not, though. If I’m right and it’s a symptom of our soul dissonance, then as time goes on the power inversion is only going to get worse, and it could spiral out of control. So many rapid changes to the anima network might make it extremely unstable, which could have a whole host of other consequences, both during and post possession.”
-
“That’s not good. I haven’t done too much since the day you two ran away, because I searched for Papika, got taken to this Flip Flappers place, I don’t remember the name, entered this really weird simulation, looked really cool and could fly, then went....into....... a chasm.........” Blaze tapers off and goes silent. He looks like he’s thinking very hard.
-
”! ! !” Sapphire tapped into her glove, and then put her hand on her hip. “What were you doing at Flip Flap?” Six asked. “What were you doing in Pure Illusion?”
-
Blaze gets shocked back to reality. “Uh, I was asking Papika for help, and needed to take me to Flip Flappers for some reason, something about how Kokonoe kicked her out and she found a new job, then they took me into pure illusion...... I don’t really want to talk about pure illusion to be honest.”
-
“How could they just- Send you into Pure Illusion!? Just like that!? Just, replace me, like it’s nothing!? That was my job!” Six tightened her hands into fists.
-
“Six” Blaze says, “Keep yourself........ sane. Don’t start blowing up and running off.”
-
“That’s all you have to say!? That was my life! That’s what I’ve been fighting to get back!” Tears began to well up in her eyes as she yelled. “And now you’re here telling me they all moved on, you’re here telling me they- They chose you instead of me, and that’s all you have to say!?”
-
“KAKONOE NEVER TOLD ANYONE YOU WERE ALIVE! YOU ARE ALSO ACTING LIKE I HAVENT BEEN HELPING YOU! Lastly, you act like you know what I went through in there and what we found! We found that amulet you wore, and others are working on us getting us there. But, you don’t know what I went through!” Blaze is crying now. “In that ravine, I heard Dink, talking about how I abandoned him again, and again, and again. YOU DONT KNOW HOW THAT FEELS!!!”
-
“Is that supposed to make me feel bad for you!? Oh, boo hoo, you and your friend got in a fight!” A pink heart appeared in Six’s hand. “Here’s my best friend! Murdered! In cold blood, by me! And I’ve got to carry around her soul for the rest of my life! You don’t know how THAT feels!” ”. . .” “And I have a girl trapped inside my head, ripped away from everything she knew and loved, just so I can chase down someone who I don’t even what they look like! You don’t know how THAT feels!” Six’s glove beeped. “Warning. Anima networ-“ “I have a soul that’s ready to rip itself apart, with my only hope for a cure out there who knows where, and only some unknown time to live! You don’t know how THA-” Six fell backwards. Her glove sparked, a glitch in the new spell program. She tumbled down the hillside. It luckily wasn’t very steep, and she didn’t seem hurt, but she was unconscious.
