Don’t let Weapon Retirement posts get buried

Despite how you feel about the retirement idea, there is an undeniably large portion of the community that is very upset about this. The idea is nothing short of a regression in the strides Bungie takes in regards to the overall health of the game. There are a number of routes they could take besides this one, and EVEN IF THEY TAKE THIS ROUTE, WITH A LITTLE TWEAKING IT COULD WORK, BUT WITH IT AS IS, IT IS EXTREMELY DETRIMENTAL IN MANY WAYS. I personally feel that this issue needs another look, and if these posts get buried Bungie will gloss over it and push the change without much more thought. Why not adopt a glamour or transmog system for weapons? Anything is better than nothing. I know that MMO games all cycle weapons and armor in and out of rotation, but they almost always come with a system to make the grind for gear worth it, because at the end of the day you can use those weapons as skins for other weapons. Bungie has said that they plan to do this so that they can reintroduce old content in the future. This means they can recycle gear instead of continuing to come up with new stuff. Look Bungie, I gotta be real with you. If you’re saying stuff like that, then you don’t belong in the game development business. If you can’t keep up, and your solution is to reuse content over and over again, you need to go back to linear shooters like Halo. I’m not hating, I love this series. I’ve dreamed of working with your company in ANY capacity for most of my life. This isn’t the way Bungie. This is a very bad move. Rethink this. If you have to go through with this, at least allow us to keep the weapons we love as usable skins for new and rereleased weapons you bring to the table.

After thinking on this all week, I think it's a good decision AND 9 - 15 months is a looooong time. When I read these posts though, most people are leaving out one critical detail that Luke made sure to mention - this change will only affect the current pinnacle activities of a given season. Meaning, most modes and playstyles in Destiny you can continue to pull/use any weapon. This includes: Low level Strikes/Low level NF Most Crucible gametypes Patrol/Public Spaces Most Raids Gambit Older Dungeons Meaning, it's likely that the Pinnacle activities that would "phase out" some weapons will likely be: Current Raid Iron Banner GM Nightfall Current Dungeon "Legend" version of whatever seasonal activity is Story/Quest of current full paid expansion (Currently is Shadowkeep) After a year and a half of using a particular weapons, I think I'm okay with them dropping it from some activities. Here's an example to put in some perspective : Just thinking back what 9 - 15 months ago from NOW would be. With the launch of Season 10, we would essentially be phasing out S5 (Season of the Forge) weapons from the highest activities in the game (Forge Weapons, Kindled Orchid, Mountaintop, etc). By Season 11, this would then follow with Season of the Drifter (S6) weapons, if this were to go in effect by this new season. (Edit: Forgot that all Exotics are immune to this change). The other side effect, that we'll have to see is if this brings weapons back with stronger perks in future seasons, because they're being built with the mindset that they will eventually phase out. I'd be curious to see how this works in the long term.
