The reason? Everyone wants something different.
One group complains about shotguns, one group complains about erentil. One group complains about hunters, one group complains about titans. One group complains about SBMM, one group complains about server strength. One group complains about cheaters, one group complains about lagging. One group complains about ttk, one group complains about loot incentive.
You see what I’m getting at here?
The fact most people refuse to adopt a more objective metric for defining weapons as "OP", and Bungie listening to them (regardless of what Stats say) is the real problem.
Everyone likes to claim "X is OP", but when asked to justify their reasoning for that being true, they just vomit a bunch of half-baked opinions that are sugarcoated with vague concepts such as "takes more skill to use" or "streamer X said so, therfore it's true" + a bunch of other logical fallacies.
I understand weapon %usage and %kill Stats (available on multiple tracking webistes) aren't perfect for dictating weapon nerfs, but they are far less biased than people jumping on a Forum or making videos and claiming "X is OP because I think it is".
The latest announced Fusion Nerf is a good example of how Nerfherders always win in this particular community, even though PvP is currently statistically overpopulated with Shotguns and Snipers... the only reason being tons of Erentil videos made by Shotgun/Sniper - maining streamers who obviously refuse to make some for (or even refuse to address) 0 Flinch Snipers and Shotguns with Quickdraw that are dominating PvP right now.

Erentil is a crutch

If erentil is a crutch you would think usage would be through the roof because it’s so easy to get kills with... yet usage is not through the roof. I barely see it when I play crucible. The more rational explanation to all the outrage over erentil is that it’s a good tactic to counter shotgun apes and get the drop on people around corners that are hard scoping with snipers. It also can counter some of the verticality of hunters. But instead of people that enjoy that play style adapting to that tactic they are just crying for a nerf.
