The things that actually killed Destiny.

In no particular order. 1. Too much too fast. It's not special, unique, or meaningful when a new exotic drops every 4 days and each exotic has to be powerful enough for people to care about. Which leads me to... 2. Power creep. No balance. Every slot (primary, secondary, heavy) are rife with one hit kill weapons that everybody uses now. Not just PvP but PvE too. Why can I kill a raid boss in 10 seconds with a sword? D1 had gun fights and weapons that hurt that much were rare. Now they fall from the sky like rain. Players are spoiled rotten with the options they have. 3. No breaks between events. Everything is go go go. Burn out is a real thing and only the top maybe 0.5% of people can play this game often enough to get everything. 4. Because everything is go go go, development is focused on giving players something to do and not taking the time to create meaningful things to do. I personally blame streamers for this because they're all so damn boring that Bungie has to be the entertainment for their streams. Bungie, you can't fix bad personalities by putting out constant (and therefore weak) content for them to play. Having 2 good DLCs per year was better than having 5 shitty, rushed, streamer friendly DLCs per year. There were flashes of old Bungie brilliance with stuff like the dreaming city and all its hidden fun stuff, but it feels like most of the content didn't have the same level of care as that content did. 5. Lots of grind, no reward. Much like 1 and 2, you never quite feel like you're getting out of the game what you out into it. I spent 4 weeks getting izanagi...and now it's in my vault. I'm not mad it's in my vault. I'm mad that it took me 4 weeks to get. I have logged in, looked at all the slogs I have in my quest log, and went to do something else instead. 6. Frequently poor game design. Find someone who has never played destiny, sit them down, and tell them to play. See how long it takes to learn this game's convoluted menu and mission system. Tons of people saw their corridors of time quest just vanish with no in game explanation (why tf do I gotta save Saint 14 if he's right there in the tower?). Gotta get the basics right. 7. Speaking of things that never work, it took entirely too long to implement SBMM. Remember, the only people who hate SBMM were people who cheated (philosophically, not literally) the old system by stacking up 6 deep and riding with meta to pad their stats and now have to pay for it. Now, instead of 3 years of refinement, we're getting base level SBMM and by the time the refinement happens (assuming it does), the game will be dead. 8. Greedy micro transactions. You know how much an emote costs in Final Fantasy XIV? Like $3. But, emotes are also in short supply and you rarely earn them in game so it feels like a good investment long term. In D2, they cost way more than that and there are over 100 at least AND chances are someone got them for free in Y1 anyway. Makes ya feel like you're wasting money. Silver in general is way too expensive. If I'm buying something, I want to be proud of it. 9. Poorly organized micro transactions. Eververse is confusing and stupid. Tess is always blinking like an advertisement. The store is a giant mess and difficult to navigate. 10. Destiny 1 was vastly different than Destiny 2 and Destiny 2 year 3 is vastly different from the first 2 years. You can't change the dynamics of your game THAT much and expect more people to show up. Word of mouth is important. I bought D1 because my friends raved about it and ordered D2 because I loved D1. People don't rave about this game anymore. Just my thoughts. Maybe it's not too late to turn the ship around. Maybe it is. Oh well either way. I ahd fun while it lasted lol.
