How is that adding insult to injury?

Meaning that any exotic that drops in the wild, isn't going to be new outside of... what, Monte Carlo?

There’s nothing exciting about sitting on your ass for months on end hoping that you actually get the new armor.

To me, I liked when the new Forsaken exotics came from World drops only. Sure I went months waiting for my first drop- hell my first drop was Wards for Titan on the second week of Shattered Throne. But would you rather have 5 armor pieces per class dropped in the wild... or 1 per class given to you as a participation trophy for doing the 5 hour story?

I would always rather that exotics come from quests/activities of some flavor rather than just hoping that the random engram on the ground is useful. I literally didn’t get most of the Forsaken exotics until the second half of the season after they came out.

Well... sadly that's not how things worked- even in D1. In D1 you had about... if I remember 5 exotics that came from quests in Vanilla, and those were all guns. The rest was all RNG drops or you had to wait for Xur. After that when Crota's end came out... there wasn't any quest exotics really outside of ones the ones that already existed. The only 'real' quest exotic was Necrocasm... which was so rare, good luck on that. House of Wolves came around... it had one exotic quest item for an... okay Scout Rifle. Everything else was world drops. Taken King had the swords (which I'll count as 1) the class guns (again, count as one cause some folk don't have multiple classes cause they're weird) No Time to Explain and Sleeper as far as quest exotics... and the raid exotic. Everything else? World drops. Rise of Iron drops... G-Horn was a quest exotic... Khvostov, the two elemental Machine Guns and Outbreak... as well Thorn which... came from an RNG world drop. After that in Age of Triumph... more world drops and RNG. Destiny 2 added another handful of quest exotics.. but about the same on par with D1's count up to now in total. But there will always be world drops... that has always been a constant. If everything was obtained via a quest that was handed to you, we'd have D2 vanilla all over again. Nothing felt special. Everyone was given a participation trophy.
