After solo queing for several seasons and not being able to reach Fabled, I finally crossed the finish line and collected Lunas's Howl and Recluse on Tuesday. Then early this morning I got The Mountaintop. And just now I finished the Revoker quest.
I know that the perks are being nerfed next week, but I am a less than average crucible player and an older (57 yrs) first time gamer. This was an accomplishment for me!
I want to encourage those who, like me, are weaker players. This was my approach:
1. Stayed positive and didn't give up. Was stomped on lots and lots by four stacks of one-eyed mask titans. Never left a losing match. Losses are part of the experience.
2. Tightly managed loss streaks. Never allowed myself to lose more than three matches in a week.
3. Made maximum use of bonus points. In fact, back in July when bungie announced the delayed release of Shadowkeep, that was the moment my resolve spiked. I mean, at heroic III, that's another 480 bonus points for playing three matches a week in competitive. I used every one of them.
4. Solo queing worked best for me. Tried a couple times playing with my friends in a team of four. Never won a single game that way. Made me superstitious. Once I soloed to 2026 glory, I crossed the finish line with a great guardian I met on the forum here. I was shaking with anxiety at being so close. He was encouraging and helped calm my nerves. Shout out to you Firefly - you're the best!
5. Being a less than average player, I was aware of my limitations. I watched lots of videos. Had good map awareness. But I knew that most times my teamates would be stronger than me. So I played a support role as best I could. I never led out of spawn. I always followed. I would help my teamates team shoot, always from behind. Never crowd them in their lanes. Tried to capture and hold zones, cover heavy ammo spawns, that sort of thing. Let the better players play and support as much as possible without interfering.
Really happy right now. Going to step out and buy a cake. Have a good one everyone!
PS: Just wanted to say to you OG Mountaintop owners, mad respect to you! I was stuck at 68% for calculated trajectory medals and was fearing I wouldn't be able to finish in time. I can't imagine having to get 100 of those medals. Good Lord. You guys and gals are amazing!

2 RespuestasWell done. Also if you want to play support then I would suggest using jade rabbit from far distances.
-
Very good for you Sir, but I don't have the time, willingness or the patience for this kind of shit.
-
Is revoker being nerfed? Or is it just master of arms and onslaught?
-
Honestly, solo and duo queuing are the best way to hit Fabled. When you match a 4 stack then, you usually get teammates who are similar in skill to the stack in my experience. I think just last week or so I decided to finish my Revoker quest and I had some very solid games solo. Even got a We Ran Out of Medals one game. Made a stat farmer leave in another. Felt great.

2 RespuestasCongrats, I get where you're coming from on playing solo, just seem to play better than if with my clan.

1 Respuestai also Reached fabled and tomorrow i will have the redrix broadsword, as i recently obtained the recluse as well as getting the revolker earlier in the season. I have no idea why but out of all of them the revolker feels the most satisfying to use.

Good job on powering through. It’s always cool to see people working hard to get something that’s not easy to get imo. I’m above average and will work real I that’s this next season to get these weapons. Keep on grinding
-
Congrats man, enjoy your new prizes!

2 RespuestasI started the Recluse quest last week. Being the same age you’ve given me hope and inspiration for the next season. Well done Gaurdian.

1 RespuestaEditado por Hawknoob: 9/29/2019 1:29:59 AMOutstanding job! I’ve reached fabled, too this morning and earned both Lunas and Recluse. I congratulate you and I’m happy to share the joy for the achievement with you. I’m close to 50 year olds and a pretty average pvp player, but I approached the whole challenge in a similar manner, and never giving up despite feeling disheartened quite a few times through the difficult journey. So, well done guardian. Us old dogs can learn new trick sometimes! Ciao

Good for you, reached Fabled 🤡

Spider-Man begs to differ from feeling good.

3 RespuestasNice. I'm 4 bounties away from my Broadsword.
-
I hope firefly is cool with everyone knowing he is your side meat. He may of not wanted his wife to know that he was fooling around with a 56 year old man.
-
1 RespuestaWhy do I see theses posts every week of some random getting fabled? That’s awesome but why are you telling us
-
Good job, old man. I'm still dreading the mountaintop quest. Even after the update.

5 RespuestasI think this is why removing the pinnacle weapons is a bad idea. Doing the challenge was fun, frustrating etc, but when you get it the feeling is awesome. It’s similar to gally dropping for the first time. No pinnacle means nothing to really challenge yourself. Make pinnacle weapons good with unique mods just don’t make them OP.

1 RespuestaCongrats man. I’m 47, an extremely average pvp player and just finished Luna’s Howl and Redrix Broadsword this week. Those two quests, especially Redrix, were some of the hardest and longest grinds I’ve done in any game ever. So satisfied they are done!

3 RespuestasCongrats from this 58yr old. Always amazed and encouraged by how many of us senior gamers there are out there. Good tips and advice. I took a similar approach to Redriks Broadsword and Recluse, but totally bailed on Luna's, Mountaintop and Revoker. "A man's got to know his limitations " ~ Harry Callahan, Magnum Force.

1 RespuestaIt sucks you’ve almost missed out on how good the Mountaintop can be. It was a lot of fun with the lunafaction boots.
-
Well done fella, from a not quite as old as you, but not far off. It felt good being the first to do it in my clan at my age. Wound those youngsters up to get it done themselves 😁
-
8 RespuestasI think you're lying.

The crappy thing is they’ve made it pointless to get to fable for a lot of people like myself, once I get not forgotten I’m done with comp.

Congratulations Guardian!
