It does.
I can enjoy the works of artists, musicians and what not despite my knowing that the artist was a complete scumbag IRL, and can see the genius in their work, but many times it is also possible to filter out the artist's personal issues / life choices in a lot of what they do, and what they produce.
There are some that I like their work, but I do not like the person very much.
The other angle for me is though, there is so much 'art' that seems to be given a by for who the artist is, and the work is just 1st grade level finger painting. "Oh well, the artist was just misunderstood, and was addicted to drugs and alcohol". You don't say..... It shows.

I've seen a couple documentaries on (modern) artists who I had never heard of, where they were graffiti 'artists' (I'll never get that one) that went mainstream, and died from drug and alcohol abuse. The documentary goes to length to show how 'genius' the person was, and their contemporaries lauded their every breath, but the work I saw was just utter trash. There was nothing special or interesting, enlightening about what they did. I mean I could do what they did, and I am NOT an artist. Just because I'm not quirky enough or misunderstood enough, or abuse drugs in general, I'd never be given that kind of adulation.
