light level and character leveling issue

<@&339845429355216896> i need your help guardian. so here’s a weird issue. it began with me being bored and simply wanting to go back through vanilla campaign, osiris, and warmind. i hadn’t on a hunter in a while, so i started a new character and went at it. i couldn’t get ANY gear to drop from nature and any “awards” i got for leveling, or from NPCs would drop at 20+ my character level and well over 200+ my light level. i can’t progress on this character whatsoever. so i deleted this character and my main hunter thinking that’d fix it. it didn’t. i created another character and went through the same thing. i deleted the game entirely off my ps4 and did a fresh reinstall all to no avail. i decided to give up and just wait for shadowkeep to launch and then try again with first light. this all sucks because i’m a huntermain. now i’ll be stuck with my titan and titan alone. which isn’t the worst thing in the world since i’m trying to become a well rounded player. just a frustrating glitch. none of my friends are experiencing this, but it’s just something that i’ve noticed since this recent patch.

The equipment drops based on the highest light level your character can be. If you had equipment in the vault or on other characters that your current character can equip that would raise that, then that's what the items would based their value for dropping. If you start a brand new Hunter but have a single 750 gun in the vault, then even if you managed to have power level 0 armor and guns on, the game's drop mechanic considers you as having a maximum power level of 93, so things will drop for that. 93(.75) is the average of 750+0+0+0+0+0+0+0; one piece of 750 gear and 7 pieces of 0 gear. If you had 3 weapons in the vault (one for each of the weapon slots) that are 750, then your new average is 281. 750+750+750+0+0+0+0+0; three pieces of 750 gear and 5 pieces of 0 gear. As you can see, the average light level is quite a bit higher, and that maximum is what the drop system bases its values on. That's how Destiny 2 improved their drop mechanic. Originally (and back in Destiny 1), only what you currently had on you and equipped counted for the drop system. People complained about how they felt constricted and being forced to play with equipment they didn't want to use just because it was higher light level and how they always had to remember to change out equipment when turning in for rewards. Bungie's change made it so that was no longer necessary. This is not a bug and is the way the game is intended to work. Because of this mechanic, if you want to start a fresh Hunter, and it be entirely fresh with no natural drops above a starting player, then you'll either have to dismantle absolutely everything you have that's equipable by a Hunter, or you'll need to create a Hunter on a new platform account and play with that. As far as being stuck with just a Titan, the choice to delete your character(s) was entirely yours, and Bungie's policy is to not restore deleted characters.
