That's not a raid really... remove the waves of enemies and make the boss throw out attacks we dodge, react to, do mechanics in response, and optimize damage. That's what a raid boss is with only adds used for a good reason in the fight.

  • If they made a raid that supported the story then really there shouldn’t be any mechanics for the boss itself. They should be reserved for encounters throughout the raid like unlocking a door or building a bridge. But they should make sense as far as story goes

  • ? Then it wouldn't be a raid? What you think normal mode raids that have story have 0 mechanics? Bro... you need a serious wake up call. The normal modes are scaled for the average player sure... but they still have mechanics that kill you and you could wipe if you have too many people dead when a team mechanic comes out. Do a bit of research before you spout stuff you have no idea what you are talking about.

  • That's the thing. There shouldn't be any mechanics. Fighting someone ten times our size should not require mechanic phasesto get to a damage phase. If 6 of the best players had the 3 strongest weapons in the game that do the best amount of damage against a super high health bar enemy it would still take a long time to do. I say super high health bar now because I don't know exactly how much health ant of the raid bosses have so I cant put a number on what would be better than 5 million health. Using ads as a constant danger you either kill the ads for alittle more breathing room and possibly ammo and super energy. Or you focus on the boss and kill ads when you need ammo or super energy. It's still a raid just with less of the bullshit. Mechanics could be used for low level bosses or areas like guanlet or what have you. But the main boss the one that is the last one of the raid. That boss just needs alot of health no mechanics and constant waves of ads. Make getting to the last boss hard but make the last boss not so difficult.

  • So you want to tether ads, kill them. Then pop well and do DPS to boss. Rinse and repeat. Sounds like a longer version of a strike boss

  • MMmmmmm.... you don't know what a raid boss is. No that's not a raid. The boss of a raid boss throws out mechanics via attacks and the group reacts and does a "dance" of sorts while keeping uptime on the boss and kill it before X time where enrage happens. That's what a raid boss has always been, you are trying to redefine what a raid boss is to be some stupid target you shoot into... that basically now becomes a glorified DPS check... one of the most hated kinds of raid bosses that get hated on by everyone in raiding.

  • How is my idea any different then spend constant hours of possibly wiping and constant death screen when either A:someone screws up,B:someone gets disconnected,C:some rage quits because of the constant screw ups,D:everyone but you gives up for the night,or E:the game glitches out and one of the mechanics doesn't works or breaks and everyone gets wiped anyways. How hard is to sit in a room after dealing with all the other levels to get to the main guy and just shoot him and his minions for hours on end. I would rather have a 20 story boss that can just be attacked instead of having to jump through more hoops just to kill him. Also I know what boss encounters and raid encounters you are talking about I have done a great many of them in my time. Playing a game get to a certain boss have to jump around then shoot or hit something in a certain order to initiate a dps phase do as much damage as possible before the boss starts again gets alittle more complicated adds a new move in to throw you off wash rinse and repeat till you I'm him. That's irritating and takes to damn long when you put into perspective that boss is stronger than you and possibly bigger than you and 5 other people put together. It would be easier to have the boss be strong but be a damn push over where 6 people can go in just lay into him and be done with it without jumping through more shit just to do damage.

    Your misundestading what "mechanics" of a raid boss are. Mechanics can mean what Destiny means that they have an immunity shield that has to be brought down to burn a boss to kill... OR The universal term of 'mechanics' in raiding is the boss does X attack, you dodge X attack or do X thing to not die to boss attack. They have a variety of different attacks trying to kill 1 person, a few people, or many people. There might be mechanics where you check and see if you have enough people alive to do X mechanic but it doesn't always have to be everyone. During all of this you can still DPS the boss, they only go immune for phase transitions, or when dealing with adds. Just go watch a raid boss video on youtube of normal FFXIV raid boss. Make sure its NORMAL and not Savage. They are fairly easy to understand, you might wipe 1-2 times learning the fight for the first time, else it becomes a fun boss fight encounter meant to be for all players to experience the story. That's why the save the Savage mode for the dedicated player base that raids.
