Or when people try too hard to make a joke just to stand out, and just come off as cringey (i.e. myself.....I just want to have friends IRL....and I just try too hard). Wait! There are other people who get on my nerve!! People who try to come off as good people, but behind closed doors they're huge jerks and complete and utter hypocrites. And that starts to affect you when they deem you unworthy of hanging out with, and decide to act like everything is okay between you two even when you know that it isn't (I didn't have good friendships in high school).
