Bungie could fix almost every instance of cheating, and paid recoveries by just changing the way Glory works. But, no. Someone who could make that call would rather stand on their decision not to, at the expense of legit players enjoyment. You all have fun with those guns now. Dont shoot your eyes out!

  • Or if Bungie would just take Microsoft up on their offer for _free_ dedicated servers and cloud computing services to any and all game developers who develop games for Xbox One. And since Microsoft recently struck a deal with Sony to share Microsoft Azure, I see no reason why Sony wouldn't offer the same thing for PlayStation Network: https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/291541-sony-microsoft-join-forces-in-cloud-gaming-and-ai

  • Maybe Bungie can rent some cheap from Bioware. They went dedicated servers and no ones playing Anthem. I bet they have more than a few not in use....

  • I dont think Sony is going to play that nicely. Destiny would have to become an Xbox exclusive most likely and PS4 holds 2/3 or D2s player base.

Bungie could fix competitive by how obtwining pinnacle weapons is achieved. 1. The current 2100 and pts gained / loss seems to be in a good spot. Many people are able to achieve it with some persistence and practice, it doesn’t take forever and since the player base is large in that section, there aren’t rampant cheaters. 2. Scaling to 5500 from there is unnecessarily difficult. This is where cheaters are most often encountered - I didn’t hit that many, but when it happens and the pts lost are greater than pts won this starts becoming very daunting and discouraging. The issue is that NF is just so many level above every other primary in the game. So how to fix this? Have pinnacle weapons drop at a lower level - say 4000, then have some pinnacle ornament, shader and armor for reaching the top. Ornament is for NF. Gear has all “enhanced” perks (which most players at that level have anyways) and you get to pick 5 armor mods and one weapon mod of your choosing. Or alternatively you have some mod that is only attainable at that level - give NF snapshot or high caliber rounds something like that. Also to be fair to people who already went through the hell of achieving that level - they get some of this stuff already - say whatever the buff mod is for NF.

  • I would let Bungie decide how they change Glory, but if you look at other games that dont require wins and revert progress on loss, they dont have the dos/recovery problems that D2 does. Can anyone name another current PvP game that has these problems as bad as D2?

  • DDoS is probably common on any game that doesn't use dedicated servers, but unfortunately XBL (and presumably PSN) fireteam and voice chat both run on P2P as well, which is how people were exploiting the Skype bug which made it easy to look up XBL GamerTag's IP address to target for DDoSing via DDoS-for-hire websites. DDoS isn't quite as prevalent now (as opposed to from around the same time last year), because the FBI shut down the top 10 DDoS-for-hire sites in December. While there are more out there, it likely raised the barriers to players gaining easy access to DDoSing sites. https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2019/03/21/fbi-crackdown-on-ddos-for-hire-sites-led-to-85-slash-in-attack-sizes/

  • That's only a small part of it though. Paid recoveries are the other large part of it. There might be a market for say, paying someone to play Black Ops 4 for you to unlock Dark Matter camo, but I've never seen it. Then again, it's a little tougher to get than a Lunas.

I mean yeah it would get rid of the problems but removing point losses would also just defeat the point of the glory system. Might as well just remove it altogether if you're going to do that. That's not a fix.

  • It doesnt matter if Glory gets changed or if cheaters get checked. My only point is that one causes the other, and Bungie could fix it. If they dont, who gives a shit? I don't play Crucible, so I definitely dont.

  • Agreed: Bungie _should_ remove the point loss system, as well as the disconnect penalties, because they only _incentivize_ DDoSing of opponents, because it allows cheating trolls to add insult to injury: not only can they force their opponents to take a loss by DDoSing the top player(s) of the opposing team, but they can also cause said DDoSed player(s) to: 1) lose Glory points, which wastes people's time and makes it much more difficult for them to reach Fabled or Legend; 2) waste time restarting their console, reloading Destiny 2, resetting router/modem, etc.; and 3) cause the DDoSed player to be blocked from playing Competitive for 30 minutes at time. Removing the point loss and disconnect penalties will at least make it a little less incentivized to DDoS other players as well as make getting DDoSed a little less painful. I had to resort to renting VPN services and playing through that, just for the DDoSing to stop killing my home internet, but unfortunately it can also increase latency.

  • While true, creating barriers to entry for DDoS ensures that only the most dedicated cheaters are going to bother, and thus reducing incidents of DDoSing. Of course, going with dedicated servers and having protections for players against having their IP addresses exposed to other players in some other way, would go a long way towards leveling the playing field and ensuring a minimum of exploiting.

  •
All systems are open to some form of exploitation
That's not true. Try getting into an IL3 system. As for the crucible Bungie could improve it vastly by adding dedicated servers for comp, or as the game codes a mess, do regional matchmaking. Something anything is better that the usual response which is silence.

  • Cheating isnt as rampant as people like to say. Ive yet to run into a cheater in d2. And in d1 i saw one person ddos in trials. And i play pvp more than an average casual. Are there cheaters? Yes. Should we ruin the only form of challenge in crucible because of it? No. Pvp has gotten no new maps or modes since forsaken. Pinnacle weapons are the only grind left.
