My Take on Reddit

I’d like to humor the notion that someone cares about my opinion, so here we go: the bad -Obvious Political Bias: It’s expected that subreddits like r/the_donald and r/the_mueller will be biased, but subreddits like r/political humor and r/politics lean so far left I worry they’ll fall off the edge of the earth. These subreddits will ban you for posting an opinion they don’t like, and I’ve even heard that now they search your history and ban you if you subscribe to a subreddit they don’t agree with. Additionally, the New Zealand shooting was widely covered and reported on reddit, mainly not out of respect for the dead, but as an excuse to accuse certain other subreddits of islamaphobia. The shootings in Sri Lanka weren’t publicized at all, most likely because they were committed by a Muslim, just so little redditors don’t have to realize that violence isn’t exclusive to one group. -The Hate: If you admit to being a female on reddit, your inbox will be filled with a variety of PM’s: trolls telling you to get back in the kitchen, people asking for your number, and people threatening rape. Additionally, some subreddits exist just to make fun of other subreddits, like r/inceltears and the most infamous one of all: r/TopMindsOfReddit. An obviously left leaning subreddit in which users make fun of other users “incompetence.” The main targets of this heat are r/the_donald and r/frenworld, 2 subreddits that are accused of being bias, conservative, subreddits, except r/TopMinds bans you for subscribing to those subreddits? -r/AdviceAnimals: what even is this? It’s literally just people complaining about random stuff with a cat in the background. How is it so popular? The Good -r/Unpopular Opinion: this subreddit is one of the most impartial, and contains posts ranging from comical to social issues. -The Positivity: Most people on reddit are genuinely helpful; I’ve seen stuff like free giveaways and people offering support to those in need. If you need anything, there’s someone on reddit who will help. -Niche Communities: If you enjoy something, chances are there’s a subreddit full of likeminded people who will discuss your hobby. Additionally, there are many support groups that exist to help you through a tough time. The Ugly -Subreddits like R/me irl: while most subreddits that deal with depression are good in nature, I’ve experienced that these subreddits lead you to a false sense of helplessness; that you are “different”, and can’t do anything. Members spend hours browsing through a field of negativity, instead of trying to get help, which just leads into a vicious cycle, impossible to get out of. Please be careful with these subreddits, and seek help from a friend or parent, not an online stranger. Agree? Disagree?

Reddit's format kind of defeats the purpose of r/unpopularopinion. If it's actually unpopular, it won't be upvoted and nobody will see it. It's still an echo chamber. Sort by controversial if you really wanna break the circlejerk. You'll you'll find such dogshit opinions like "please abort disabled children," "millennials are all snowflakes," and "furries are good people." Edit: Oh! And this garbage you'll have to see to believe.
all of those are real post I just found btw also the last one was a joke, im literally a furfag
Honestly, I could list more, but they're all so ridiculous that I'd be here for a while. You should try it, it's hilarious.

  • You say that r/Politics is super far to the left. It isn’t, it is a fairly centrist subreddit, you are just so far to the right that any discussion about things that Trump is actually doing is leftist. They aren’t advocating radical ideas like communism or socalism. And r/UnpopularOpinion being neutral? Gummies a break, it is basically r/PopularRightWingOpinion it is super stupid. They say brave things like, “Gay people aren’t special” and then right wingers jerk eachother off in the comments about how enlightened they are and how the gays have ruined everything.

    • *Goes to r/AskReddit* "How much sex do you have per week?" "What's the sexiest thing you've ever done?" "What are sex secrets everyone should know?" "What old game should be remastered?"
To avoid the typical bad side of Reddit, you have to avoid every major subreddit and find the smaller ones where people are more laid back and less upvote and downvote heavy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=56&v=gL41eZLxxmg Remember that one time where Samantha B. interviewed the Kid who got vaccinated without his parent's consent and she called Reddit "The USA today of White Supremacy"?

      • I’m not that familiar with reddit tbh. But from your description reddit sounds like it functions as a large pool of people that split off and form smaller “subreddits” based around shared beliefs or interests. How is this not like the rest of society? All people form smaller groups or communities within the larger society based upon their worldview. Whether it’s politics, religion, hobbies, cultural background or whatever. Reddit sounds like it’s just a reflection of this. Is that a bad thing?

      • I've unsubscribed from almost anything remotely close to presenting any form of political discussion. r/pics r/funny is an absolute crap shoot with it. I like Reddit for book discussions about some of my favorite authors and series. r/kidsare-blam!-ingstupid is great.. DIY and woodworking subreddits are good.. mostly Reddit is a giant circle jerk tho. Good stuff with some really bad stuff.
