Good news: Ya boi is going on a week vacation with mis amigas to the Outer banks in 2021 for Summer Vacation/My one friend's 18th birthday! And my one friend is going to have her associates degree by the time she graduates, and her parents will give her $2k-3k if she does. (It's relevent if you read the Bad news)
Bad news: When we split the money we need 4 ways, I need to make $1,700 for the trip.
I'm currently 16, I don't have my temps yet, (please don't grill me too hard for that I had shit going on and not a whole lot of time for Drivers ed), and I somehow need to make $1.7k in 2 years-ish. How can I do that? I know I can get jobs over the summers prior to the trip and my friend can maybe take off some burden with her associates but I don't want to rely on her because I don't want to be a leech and. Any and all advice is immensely appreciated, as I might just have a panic attack about this.
TLDR: Refer to title.

1 RespuestaGet a job that pays $10 an hour and depending on how many hours you work you and how much you save you can make that in 2 years or less.

Create a MLM scam and sell shitty products to people and tell them to sell the things they buy to their friends.

1 RespuestaYou only need to save $70.83 a month or $16.35 a week. Get a part time job. Even 3 hours a week at minimum wage would more than cover it.

I’m working as a camp counselor, $7.65*36ish hours a week. That’s $275 a week. Over 12 weeks. I’m also taking a pay cut so I can do I job I enjoy as a apposed to one I’ll hate that pays like twice as a much(lucky enough to not need the income) and an hours cut to spend time with my Grandma. Your 16 mate, Target’s starting pay is $12 an hour.

Get a job? Most grocery stores can hire legally at 16 in most states. Smaller shops can as well. Candy stores. Ice cream shops. Antiques. If all else fails, mow lawns, shovel snow.

Work construction, go wherever they want you to go, the further away the better. Get a per diem, live on that. Save ALL your cash, you'll sacrifice your personal health somewhat but you'll make a good amount.

Getting a job, becoming a wizard in the stock market, becoming a literal wizard, succeed in alchemy and turn lead into gold, sacrifice a few goats and make a bargain with good ole Bleezebubs. Wait... Maybe just the first one.

Honestly Get a job and work 35 to 40 hours a week. Save 100$ a paycheck. That's 400 a month. Itll take 5 months to have the money. And if you saved 75 a paycheck it would take 9 months. Its doable. You just have to stay committed to saving

Try signing up to do background work for TV and Movies. It's super easy to get work and it is quite possibly the easiest work ever. My last background work I had to literally just sit and look at my phone for the scene. I get paid to look at memes and act casual.

Lowballing here. At $6 a hour after tax $1700 / $6 hour = 283.33 hours 283.33 hours / 2 years = 141.67 hours a year 141.67 hours a year / 52 weeks = less than 3 hours a week. Working 3 hours a week at $6 an hour after tax gets you your trip. You should easily be able to get a part time job that pays more and gives you more hours.

3 RespuestasGet a coin jar and another container for cash. On the cash container, write a goal of 500$ $ keep a tally on it. When it eats to 500$ give it to your parents and ask them to help you get a secured credit card. Secured means that you pay 500$ upfront and have the card with a limit of 500. If you default on payment, then the cash gets taken from the 500 you paid. If you yo don’t default on payment, usually in 3 months, 6 months or a year, depending on the plan, you get the 500$ back & it turns into a regular credit card. If in the first 6 months you can get the 500, then when you get the cash back you’ll have 500 cash an a 500$ credit card. Just don’t ever use the card until the trip, & on the trip use the card as a last resort for emergencies only. If you feel like you wouldn’t be able to refrain from using the card, do not use this method. Once you get the 500 back, put that 500 and anything else you’ve saved up to that point in a bank account that will give you the highest interest rate but that you cannot withdraw from it until a certain date. With the range of funds you’re looking at you won’t get a huge return on the interest, but it will be a tiny bit more than a regular account, and keep depositing vacation funds into tha account. If you go for this method, it could help build your credit a well s set you up for your vacation, but please research credit and make sure you are disciplined enough not to use the card because it could end up getting you in a worse spot if you don’t handle it right. If you can get 1200-1400$ and a 500$ emergency credit card, you’ll be in a better spot than if you just had 1400-1500$ & no backup plan if you run out of cash. It sounds like you have a good idea of your budget for the trip, but maybe research the trip more and do a more detailed itinerary. Figure out how much you will spend a day, or at least a rough estimate, and what activities you’ll spend money on. Call ahead and see if you can pre-book certain activities for a discount. Pre-booking things is maybe the one spot you’d want to use your cad before the trip, because you could have it paid off before you go, and if there is a problem with a booking during the trip, your credit card company can help fix it or get your money back. Other than that, it’s all about saving away whatever you can, work as much as you can, put literally every coin you get in the coin jar, and don’t go cash in your coins until it’s full, then deposit the coin money into the vacation account. With the credit card thing, research and make sure you can do it right because if you do it wrong it can go really bad, getting you in debt, having bad credit, and having to end up spending more money on late fees, overdrafts, etc.

Work at a place that does tips. Like a coffee shop. Do side projects that utilize your talents/hobbies for people(i’m set to make over $2100 by the end of this summer, hopefully). Keep your change. Trade useless gift cards with friends for cash.
