“Die if you must, but accomplish the mission first”
Bait.
That was my job
“Look lost and in need of help”
“He is going to be pivotal for our campaign, he must be dealt with at all cost”
So I looked lost, and afraid, and in desperate need of help, but courageous all the same.
I played my role well, and assistance arrived.
Come closer little hero, just a bit closer.
And as he extended his shield over both of us I extended my hand and brushed his back. That was all I needed.
The seed of corruption buried fast, and deep.
No amount of light is going to detect it.
And as a true Hero (with capital H) he went offering his help all around. The Sheriff, the Brotherhood... he stood beside all of them, unknowingly spreading the corruption. Subtle, very subtle. Just a little bit. But it will grow, and infect everything in due time (maniac laughter explodes in my mind at the thought)
He could get cleansed, but for that he would need to know he’s been taken. And the cleansing would not be easy, or painless.
Unexpectedly, I survived, in bad shape, but alive.
I retreat into the shadows to lick my wounds, waiting for the Deep’s next move.
“You could get cleansed too, you know?” something whispers.
Hope flares for a moment, then I remember the pain.
“Nah, don’t think so”
