1. They're afraid that we'll reach level cap....realize that there really isn't any loot to chase....and we'll stop playing. They don't trust the game they've made enough to believe that we'll keep playing it because we enjoy it. 2. They dont' drop at max light, because Bungie's goal is to wring as much play as possible from a limited amount of content. So having the soft cap far below level cap ties into the role in the game cores play. [u] [b]Here's the scam.[/b][/u] a. The game has no end-game basically, because there is no loot to chase. But Bungie's goal is to keep us playing by trapping us in an unending, MID-GAME item level grind so that we don't notice this. b. So you throttle vertical progression wtih Milestones so you stretch out the grind to level cap for as long as possible. c. You bottleneck infusion with cores, so that players can't level up the gear they want... (more on this laters) d. You keep players grinding by doling out the game's rewards with an eyedropper. So everything new either had really low drop rates, or is awarded after a very lengthy, STRUCTURED grind. e. ONCE YOU REACH LEVEL CAP, A SECOND GRIND KICKS IN BECAUSE YOU'VE BOTTLENECKED INFUSION....THE GRIND TO BRING THE GEAR YOU LIKE UP TO LEVEL CAP. f. So now you're forced to grind for either the necessary cores to infuse the gear you want to play with up to level cap......or continue to grind MILESTONES (!!) so you can get duplicates at level cap so you can infuse with Glimmer rather than cores. g. But before the vast majority of players can accomplish this, you raise level cap (!!) which kicks you back down to the mid-game item level grind [b](sub-point a)[/b] ....and the process repeats itself(!!) Or the player realizes that they're on a -blam!-ing HAMSTER WHEEL that doesn't go anywhere....chasing after a loot MIRAGE that Bungie has made intentionally elusive, and is intentionally blocking you from enjoying. As they try to condition you to accept unpredictable progression and unpredictable rewards, yet continue to grind away in frustration. Which is why when people think "-blam!- this Noise"....and they either quit....or drastically cutback their involvement in the game. THAT is why Bungie isnt' going to win this fight....and every game devleoper who has tried to win this kind of fight with the player base either backs down....or destroys their own game.

Different opinion here Try using cores efficiently, and leave fashion as endgame. Try new stuff on the way to the top, hit max way before new power level raise, start a stockpile, eliminate this problem.

IMO cores are common enough. Between drops from scrapping, scrapper bounties, and buying them from spider, you can easily get enough cores to make a level 10 masterwork in a week. It really doesn't seem unreasonable. Also, not sure why more time playing the game = better gear seems unfair to you. That's how it should be. People who did more work should be rewarded for their work.

I agree with all of it! Bungie seems to think this is a $14.99 a month to play game like swg , swtor and wow.

Light Level is the most bullshit mechanic in any type of RPG to date.[b] It only exists to Handicap players, never to reward them[/b]. If you are a lower light, you melt like butter. Cores RUINED Destiny for me. Played for 4 years and quit last October because of this tedious BS. I just had enough. Unless cores are REMOVED COMPLETELY, I will never return to D2 or purchase their season pass. And if it's in D3, won't play THAT either. Just done.

Quit and never looked back, but my actual game has maintenance I check these forums for laughs. Boy Bungie doesnt disappoint. They ve reached a point whe players wont come back for a better game but want to see Bungie take a bow, be submissive and apologize for the mess they sold as agame.

The main reason they are there is to keep players having a goal to upgrade. If every player had everything upgraded, then they would get bored and play other games.

Agree, and they should also get rid of light level as well... I mean why should I have to play to get higher light gear in the first place, lets all just log in to wave and dance together, I want all my exotics given to me as its to much work, credit for all raid completions and every weapon with every possible roll.... this playing a game crap has got to end. Honestly, I play a few times a week and still have more then enough cores to do what ever I want.... I have no idea what everyone is doing that they have to complain so much. Rumor has it they are adding a new quest for cores. You will pay 2 cores and then need to get 1000 head shots in competitive, do 500 zavala bounties, and tell Drifter you're sorry for snitching. In return you get a random item, which can be 1 core. Once you have done that quest 2000 times, you get the achievement "Ate paint chips" and a position at Bungie.
