I just spent the better part of an entire day trying to complete Savahun's Lair Extreme to get my Thorn. Over many tries I finally only reached the first big open area after the first room of shards you have to break. Many tries at that one, but something always caught me with a final bomb or a sword that reaches a ridiculous distance. There is no matchmaking so I am alone in this, and I am too old to hang out in this or some forum like it and beg other players to help me get through it. After all those steps before, including the unbearable suffering through a day full of competitive crucible with a sub-par 0.98 lifetime efficiency, the gun no longer seems worth the futile efforts at this strike. Like everything else in Destiny that is truly special, the solo player has to forgo it. Nope, you cant have it.
