This attitude of people are crying about something so we better nerf it needs to go. These people are just going to move on to crying about the next thing. And the next. And the next. And so on until you nerf all of the fun out of the game.
I know that they’re annoying. I know it’s easier to silence them than to tell them no and deal with the tantrum that happens after. But good parents still say no. You don’t seem to have a good understanding of how to manage of community of whining children.
Assess things for yourself by playing the game you have created. Determine what needs buffed and nerfed through this method. Report back to us on what needed tuning and why you chose, independently of community feedback, to make changes to something.
Community feedback will ALWAYS come from a selfish point of view. The community isn’t asking for buffs or nerfs to bring things into balance. They are asking for buffs to what they like and use and nerfs for what kills them a lot that they don’t want to adapt to and what they don’t use. Giving these people what they want isn’t achieving balance. It’s just giving in to a pouty child because you’re a lazy parent.
Edit: This post is neither about nor in reaction to the news about OEM. I don’t care if it gets nerfed if it happens for the right reasons. Bungie listening to the people who cry loudest is not a good enough reason for any nerf. If Bungie came forward and said we have decided we need to change “X” because we have been play testing and noticed some issues: cool! Fix it. When they come forward and say “well people are upset about “X” so we are taking a look at it and will bend over for them to shut them up” they are encouraging people to cry about every little thing in the game they don’t want to adapt to, use or learn how to compete against.
Second Edit:
Bungie is making the same mistakes they made before. I’m not telling them how to do their job. I’m notifying them that they are doing the same stupid thing again. Didn’t work out too well last time and if it happens again who knows what sales numbers will look like in the future and who knows what that will mean? Bungie already alienated a crazy number of people by previously listening so much to nerf herders. They’re doing it again.
I’m not demeaning their job. I’m simply observing that the only things that get addressed for competitive balance are those that people cry about most. There’s plenty of things that are way out of balance that don’t get cried about as much that Bungie hasn’t touched. Some of the things that have been nerfed weren’t really out of balance. The point is that in terms of competitive balance adjustments, yes, Bungie just reacts to community feedback instead of actively pursuing solutions before they become problems. That’s exactly what they do. All evidence suggests this. Your distaste for that evidence is irrelevant. It’s reality.

Woah! This is totally wrong... We all know Bungie doesn't listen to anyone.
