Over the last week I have tried to play Crucible to use the Last Word and get back into the swing of things.
I have always been able to hold my own in the Crucible. Typically top half of the team if not top, and maintaining a positive K/D.
Trying to play Crucible this week to use the Last Word has just been disheartening. I actually feel like Bungie has just given up on PvP and let it fallen to the wayside and I'll say why.
Matchmaking, as it currently stands, is biased towards stacked teams. Let me explain.
Now in all matchmaking you'll have the one or two matches where you get rolled by a full stacked team as a solo player, and you'll never completely get away from that.
However, it seems this is the permanent state of the crucible right now, as I am consistently being matched into 6 stacked teams, 3 out of 4 games.
So as a solo player, the Crucible is now a monotony of matches where I'm typically matched into a game that's already halfway over, and the full 6 stack team
on the other side is 40 to sometimes 50 points ahead.
Not only is this discouraging, but what usually winds up happening is I'm placed in the match around the time the whole other team gets their supers, and is rushing our now discombobulated team in spawn. The good teams will layer these, and so I am forced to watch myself killed in spawn with no hope for contest 3, to even 4 times before I'm able to spawn in and actually use my weapon.
So my options? Either quit out of the match immediately and perpetuate the problem, or suffer through the remaining 5 minutes watching the other team spawn camp us repeatedly, with supers, heavy, and a lockdown on lanes.
This is not what the Crucible used to be.
While there has always been an element of chaos to PvP in Destiny, there was always The potential for a team to make a comeback with a well placed super, or a higher skilled player pulling the team up.
Now, thanks to simplistic map design that focuses on well defined lanes, and tight corridors, once you get behind it's a matter of how long the other team can keep killing you in or just outside of your spawn.
And to those who find themselves with 5.0 or higher K/D's doing this, know that all you have effectively done is shoot fish in a barrel. Your stats are bloated, and you don't deserve them.
I want to submit this post to plead with Bungie.
PLEASE
Consider looking into making adjustments to matchmaking that favors matching like sized teams together.
It is not an engaging, or rewarding experience to go in as a 6 stack team, and spawn camp 6 random people for 10 minutes.
And it is disheartening to desperately want to enjoy Crucible, and not be allowed entry simply because I want to play by myself.
While I understand Rumble is a playlist, it simply doesn't scratch the itch of 6v6, especially when the rounds only go to 25, are plagued just as bad by spawn killing, and typically end very quickly.
Your solo players will thank you, and be more engaged with your Crucible if you will just allow them a fighting chance in it.
Hope somebody sees this.
