It is a shame. It had potential at d2 launch to be really competitive but it was too different from d1 for people to accept. The game was so close to balance but they gave people what they wanted and now we have this. Further from balance we’ve ever been with no visible intent to reign it in

I’m a pve guy, I’ve just finished TLW quest. The matchmaking is so slow, from searching for players to actually flying in to the match can take longer than a game of mayhem. Then you aren’t matched with similar players of your ability. Then you have the lag, being shot round corners, people appearing out of nowhere, all the usual stuff linked with lag. Then there are the rewards, absolute rubbish especially, the ranking up. Overall I’d say it has to be one of the worst pvp services in AAA games.

Destiny has always been a pve fps centered game. Pvp has always been an after thought, with much less content. It is a shooter looter, with unforgiving rng and mostly easy activities. There will never be a large grandiose pvp in any destiny. There are plenty of games that are fps pvp that you can play.
