I suspect the Destiny PvP community at large may disagree, but the reason Destiny crucible is so bad comes down to the fact that not everyone has access to the same weapons, and that those weapons can vary by a significant amount due to random perks. Matchmaking doesn't help, but I don't think it's even close to the biggest problem facing PvP.
If you want a balanced, competitive, skill-dependent PvP experience then gear must be standardized. Create PvP-only weapons with fixed stats, and a standard set of selectable perks to allow some customization available to all players.
Pinnacle weapons need to go away. Instead, award unique skins and shaders for existing PvP gear. Exotic weapons should not be allowed in PvP.
Finally, supers need a drastic revisit in PvP. Most last too long, and/or make the user too difficult to kill. Does it feel great as it is? Well, for the person/team using it. But if one team is already performing better than the other team, they get supers sooner and more often, giving them further advantage and widening the gap even more. There needs to be more opportunity for counter-play in any kind of competitive experience. Some class abilities would need a re-tuning as well.
It all comes down to that the way things are only widens skill gaps. I find it far more interesting when the difference between players is only their skill, and not a god-roll weapon that some may never obtain, or a "pinnacle" weapon that you must already be moderately skilled to obtain in the first place.
This reminds me of the dreaded "team-shooting" ruining everyone's fun. However, in a team-based PvP shooter, the whole point is to shoot the enemy as a team. The problem was, at the beginning, it was too hard for a single person to face-roll the entire enemy team if they were caught out away from their own team.
It feels a bit like too much of the Destiny PvP community wants to be as powerful vs Guardians as Guardians are vs PvE enemies. Thing is, no one wants to be your trash mob.
Regardless of what I want, I believe Destiny has gone too far to ever get to a balanced experience. Too much work would be needed, and it's too late at this point to draw in enough new players to replace the ones that would leave if such changes were made.
I think, in the end, that Destiny PvP fits a very specific niche that relies on the fact that it's an unbalanced mess that strongly favors the extremely dedicated, not just for their experience and skill but by literally rewarding them mechanical advantages. I for one will continue to loosely tolerate Crucible, but I'm afraid I'll never love it.

Yesssssss

No one wants balanced pvp in this game, me included. The game being fun should be put first and foremost. I don't really understand this obsession since there are way more competitive and balanced pvp experiences available in other games.
-
Not gonna happen chief, it took 3 months to come up with a tiny patch that only. fixed Gwisin vest and Chaos reach. They dont want it to be fair, competitive or balanced. They want OP weapons so the no-thumbs retards can win 1v1's and play more Destiny. Thats more revenue for them.

This is what I've been saying!!! Thanks for actually putting it into words for me m8. This is why I never take "pvp balancing" seriously. "balance" doesn't work with destiny.

4 RespuestasEditado por virtual agony: 12/3/2018 8:57:41 PMthe only way to balance PvP, is to separate damage from PvE and PvP. use the same items, just have different damage values for PvE and PvP. they did it D1 for shotguns, don't know why they can't do it on all items. this way they can be tuned for each event without ruining the other. its just too obvious, so it will never happen. EDIT. for the dumbass that downvoted me. please explain why. this will solve so many issues with this game.

Instead of time to kill and time to death being under 2 secs... maybe actually make it a real fight. Let's double or triple health totals and see what that's like

🤧🤧this post's awfull.

Balance doesn't make it destiny Competitive desires need to go
-
Lol noone actually wants a competitive game. me included, this game is fun because it lacks all that bullshit.
-
Wether I agree with you or not everyone wants something different I’m not sure it’s actually possible to find a middle ground on anything in destiny
-
Shields and rifts need to be instant. If you see opp running with a shotgun a class ability should counter it.

3 RespuestasI agree that this would balance destiny pvp however that would take away what makes destiny PvP so great and different from other games and that is the bond between pvp and pve in the rewards aspect in that you go play pve for gear and weapons that could contain a god roll weapon or amazing gear which causes an endless cycle (if there’s enough good interesting loot in the pool of gear you receive) of returning to pvp to test out your great new gear and then going right back to that raid or strike to get better gear. That’s why destiny is so great and I believe over powered weapons belong in this game however there needs to be multiple instead of just 1 or two because then there isn’t enough diversity in weapon choice and I know having multiple op weapons rule the crucible does not have an abundance of viable options I just believe the game is enjoyable and exciting during this state Feel free to disagree and or add on to this

short solution, Destiny can't be balanced as is, they should of made PVP in the same mold of Halo (without armor lock)
-
7 RespuestasTo OP, part of the Destiny experience is being able to 'seamlessly' take your Guardian character from one medium to the next, whether that is running around in patrol then flying into a raid, or completing a strike then hopping into a Crucible match, all while still using the same weapons and abilities you're familiar with. That being said, I do agree with the notion that a wide range of modifiers on weapons are too much of a variable to balance around for a fair competitive PvP scene. I would go the step further and say that armour is standardized as well. Not only would this level the playing field, but it would also further divide the gap between Quickplay and Competitive, giving the game-mode more of an identity and purpose. Leave Quickplay as it is though so that the current Destiny PvP identity can remain.

dont you never ever let this post fade away keep it alive, your idea is the right essence for a better Destiny 2. Your idea of making things equal kinda reminded me of "Combat Arms" there was also a mode called "Pure Combat", wich was a gametype where no premium guns where allowed so everyone had a small number of weapons to choose.

4 RespuestasDestiny isn’t a arena style shooter where everything hangs on balance. It is a FPS, RPG, RNG looter shooter with a power fantasy/progression system. Balance does not work in a game like Destiny. For the simple fact that if everything is balanced then everything becomes average and no one grinds for average. So BOOM goes the replay value.
-
This post, is the most intelligent post ive ever read on this forum. AMEN to you my friend. The problem Destiny has in regards to Balance is the "power fantasy" just like you said, people want to be as powerful in PvP as they are in PvE. Standardized PvP would be SO MUCH BETTER than what it is now. The only problem is that the playerbase would never accept this cuz theyre too hung up on wanting to feel "Special". Theyre all snowflakes that want to use their overpowered crap that just completely ruins the experience for the average "actually has a job" type of player. Standardized Gear and setups applies to all the other shooters that has seen a wipe success, just look at Halo 3, BF, CoD and CS.

2 Respuestassupers= free kills .. thats all.. bungie need remove supers from pvp. i think its enough to have power weapons in the pvp.
-
This ain't it chief
-
Sounds boring.
-
Then I would never touch PvP again. When I buy a game like Destiny that is not the experience I or many others are looking for. I play Halo and CoD for more standardized gameplay.

5 RespuestasOr here’s one. Quit.

1 RespuestaSounds like the boring, bland vanilla D2 PvP experience. No game gets remembered for balance, it gets remembered for how it made you feel. The fact that there is an actual skill gap allows you to pull off awesome outplays and feel truly powerful. The people complaining about this are the people that have no thumbs, no skill and will call everything that kills them OP. Posts like this are a byproduct of Bungie catering to entitled casuals that don’t want to improve or get good at anything, they just want everything to be easy. The game you describe is called communism simulator.
-
3 RespuestasSo basically remove destiny out of destiny pvp so it can be like every other shooter? If that’s what people wanted they’d buy a different game.
-
You speak the truth. (To add to your post, I'd just remove Supers from a balanced Crucible entirely. A mechanic just for netting free kills is immediately unbalanced and not competitive at all.)
