And this was coming from someone who knows basically nothing about them. I hope he realized how dumb he sounded when he said that.

Reply with “You need to grow out of being overprotective if you’re not gonna do your job as a parent” My dad tried to get me to focus on certain things few years back but when I told him that gaming was the one place I felt I had a chance at succeeding in life in he shut up about thinking video games were bad. See at school before I dropped out I got bullied every single day and when I was at home I was far happier. As a parent you don’t want your kid getting beat up daily no you want your kid to live their life happily. That’s how I convinced my father to drop the act about wanting me to get back into school and made him realize that I don’t need an education to have a decent life.

I have played only RPG games and fast multiplayer games recently. Fallout NV can pause anytime Rainbow six is fun and has quick matches too.

Sometimes life shits on Dads too. Maybe he had a bad day, and lashed out. Maybe hes looking out for you by wanting you to put that much energy and passion into something that will help you in life, and he just doesn't know how to phrase it. When the shit calms down, talk to him quietly about his concerns. If he flies off the handle yelling....... Well, GAME ON!!🤘😝

That’s Muggles for you

1 RespuestaEditado por xcutioner_0: 11/26/2018 2:09:03 PMIf your parents don't fully understand you can't pause an online game, they aren't respectful parents. I get it, and I think my kid would love me for that if and when I have one.

4 RespuestasI mean as long as my future child goes outside and has a life than I wouldn’t mind him playing. Playing games all day leads to obesity

For myself, games have become more of a waste of time. I suppose that may be because I now perceive them as sources of cheap simulated gratification. It's more satisfying completing tasks at work and completing errands than it is completing in-game tasks. Lately, I've found that I'd rather be working than gaming.

3 RespuestasEditado por FailedStrike: 11/25/2018 12:01:46 AMWell he's right, if..... 1. Video games are keeping you from leading a normal life, meaning they're interfering with school or work. 2. You're an idiot who thinks they can make it big on Twitch or YouTube, but you have no skill, sponsors, etc. 3. You've graduated high school but still live with your parents. If any of these apply to you, you should probably break your console.

Depends on how much you play. Too much of a good thing can turn bad. Balance is key friend.
-
Maybe you do.

Editado por Walshy: 11/25/2018 1:27:15 PMAlthough I love video games and shouldn’t take away things people love but does it make anyone here sad that when most of us were young we would find enjoyment playing outside using sticks for swords and having hours of fun with that And now kids today do nothing but have their eyes glued to their parents iPad The world is changing I guess 😕 (Not saying you are of course ,Obviously your dad doesn’t understand that Video Games are a source of happiness to you ,Like watching a Football game is to other people ,Just a random thought that came to me there)

We've all mainly been there. We're still at a point where the older generations don't view video games as an acceptable source of entertainment for adults. Good thing to realize is that it's been becoming more and more accepted as the years go by. Try and shrug it off. Those same people will let you watch tv instead and say nothing negative. But god forbid you play a video game, then they go for the kill on your self-esteem.

Alright so I got into this simracing league not that long ago. Motor skills and reflexes: Check. Gotta coordinate heel-toe on the way down. With the H pattern, gotta make sure not to money shift. some of the Formula stuff, you gotta be able to steer to the slide sometimes. That happens pretty quick. Kers usage on the cars that have it... Checking mirrors so you don't kill anybody... Idk there's a bunch of shit going on. Social Aspect: Check. I mean, we have to coordinate and talk smack at each other so... And then, when the person talking smack dive bombs into a wall... You know how it is. Testosterone Fueled Competitive-ism: Check. I don't play contact sports or anything. Rowed back in the day; sweepers. Fours usually. Somehow simracing checks some of the same boxes for me. Gotta get the physical fitness elsewhere though. (Unless I turn the feedback all the way up, but then it's really just the biceps, chest, maybe abs depending on how much I have to force the wheel. Only messed with 100% FFB once, can't recommend unless it's something like the Sesto in PCars2 or Assetto becaus the steering seems light by default.) And as an added bonus I'm not out breaking the law on the streets, risking physical harm or financial loss on a track. Brakes tires, and fuel ain't -blam!-in cheap. That doesn't even really go into artistic value or anything like that.

If he interpreted it as a childish thing then dont listen to him but if you're doing nothing but gaming then perhaps heed his advice

Been gaming for 34 years now. I understand both sides. He just wants you to grow into a responsible man.

3 Respuestasim 16 and my parents despise the fact that i still play video games. they refuse to buy me any gaming related gifts such as controllers, headsets, or games even for my birthday and christmas because they “will not support it”. it’s really strange, considering i play around 12-14 hours a week which is pitiful hours compared to other people i know who crank that out in a day. im also involved in extra curriculars, i volunteer when i find opportunities, and i have a 90 average in school which i am happy with. apparently i need to broaden my interests and find other hobbies though. weird.

1 Respuestathis girl I have started seeing doesn't really understand video games either. she was like "so this is what the middle aged 20-young 30 year olds computers look like?" and I was telling her that despite popular belief, the majority of gamers are around 20-30 years old.
-
Become more productive, get better grades in school and strive to become successful. Get other hobbies like liting or sports so your dad can see it's possible to be grown up while also playing games. Instead of posting here about it, prove to him how the stereotypes are incorrect.
-
maybe he doesn't have a computer. lol there's potential there to learn from and code at home if needed. lolol.

1 RespuestaAs a 52 year old,im glad my son plays video games, its one thing we have in common, he grew up watching me play, and its because of this,he's now going to university to geta degree in gaming.

Editado por Mr Bossypants: 11/23/2018 7:17:39 AMIf he watches sports, tell him he needs to "Stop being such a gay boi watching boys play with balls all day." Yeah, it's offensive but it'll help get your point across. Don't come after my hobbies and I won't come after yours and all that jazz. Edit: Originally had a much more offensive term for homosexual but Bungie censored the word. Anyway, stand your ground and defend the things you love.

1 RespuestaTell him he needs to grow out of watching TV.
-
Assert your dominance by telling him he's adopted and sit in his chair.
-
1 RespuestaYou gotta throw the whole dad out

Meanwhile he's playing Candy Crush on his smart phone.
