PC upgrade?

hi everyone, my rig is now a bit dated. last year i upgraded my gtx 760 with a 1080. now im unsure if i should upgrade the rest of my rig in order to play games (blops 4, bfV etc.) at a stable 144hz at 1080p. cpu: i7 3770(non k) if id upgrade id need a new mobo and ddr4 ram anyways so i dont think its neccessary to post it here. can you reccommend me a new cpu? since intel seems very pricy and doesnt come with a solid cooler im torn trying out ryzen. im not much of an overclock guy. i use my pc hardly for anything else than gaming. thanks in advance! (i hope i listed all details, feel free to ask)

  • Hmm ok budget is the big one Is it only for gaming? If so 8700k is still the best it beats every cpu from amd in gaming, seeing that 9th gen is much more expensive and is poorly stocked Like the guy below said ryzen is very competive in pricing but just for gaming 2700 isnt needed The 2600 wil do pretty much the same in pure gaming but currently around 160usd for the regular and 200usd for the 2600x And the main thing against going all out on amd right now is the 7nm nodes coming next year Thats gonna be a good boost for clockspeeds wich games love And currently intel is better at that But yesterday youtube channel: Hardware unboxed , uploaded an updated CPU recommendation video

    • You aren't expecting to reach a stable 144fps on high settings, right? Do you have a 144hz monitor?

im pretty sure that in terms of raw processing power, intel is better than amd overall hence the higher price point. however, if you are just gaming, you could probably get the Ryzen 7 2700x. it is the highest end gaming processor offered by amd and it is cheaper than something such as the Intel i7 7700k, which is obviously very good but you are wasting money if you are only using it for gaming. same with amd’s Ryzen Threadripper series; extremely powerful processor, but very unnecessary if you are just gaming. the ryzen 7 2700x would be a great pairing for your gtx 1080. there would be little to no bottlenecking on either end as both of these are very high end components. it goes for $400 CAD on newegg, compared to the i7 7700k counterpart which goes for $520 CAD on the same site. if you want to cut down on price, you can go for the first gen ryzen 7 cpus (1700 and 1700x) which are $300 CAD and below and are still very good processors. however, if you want the absolute best of the best for your purposes, get the 2700x. whatever you get, make sure your motherboard supports that generation of ryzen architecture (first or second gen)
