This is written from the perspective of a 46 year old, old school gamer - I have been gaming since 1980. I was gaming online at 300 bps when I ran a DikuMUD variant that I programmed at 12 years old. I was gaming via Archie and Gopher before the internet went graphic. From Quake on, I have loved online gaming, and took a lot of years off before I became disabled around August of last year, right before D2 launched. Since then, I have played this game almost daily, and in terms of playtime, I am in the top 1% of gamers. I only say that to give context - I realize my opinion is not relevant to a company that tries to make the most people happy; the most bang for their buck. There is a disturbing trend at Bungie in D2. Caving into the whining of a generation of video game junkies. Giving up on banning people for open blatant exploiting and cheating. Openly rewarding and lauding the accomplishments of exploiters. Primer Engram exploiting? Filling up your engram inventory from Rahool, so you cant pick up primes, and letting people fill their postmaster with them so they can level faster, be raid ready faster, and "compete" for first 24hr/4day prizes. Absolutely pathetic. Even worse, the pathetic streamers, grown men, who openly exploited and cheated their way there...why? So they can raffle off loot spots, get a few subscriptions, or build their stream. Total lack of character. No wonder so many of them are drinking on air, divorced, single, or speaking to their "family" with such disrespect and callousness. Creepy. Ace of Spades too hard to get because you have to kill 5 guardians in Gambit? Wahhhh. Let's nerf it and call if the Queen of Spades. (Shhh don't tell these whiners that have to kill Guardians for Malfeasance). Malfeasance Quest too hard to get because of a rare spawn? Up the spawn rate, make it mean nothing you got the exotic. Can't actually kill invaders or guardians with a gun designed for that purpose? Let someone else do it for you. Leveling up too hard? Let's change the bounties to all power drops for Iron Banner. And make them easier to achieve. People cheating, exploiting, to get into the raid chests earlier AND broadcasting it live on twitch? Don't ban them. Don't suspend them; i.e., send a message to the community that its ok. Last Wish raid challenging to do as intended? (Great raid btw). Rocket cheese possible (will be patched). Np. Let it go. Devalue the entire accomplishment. Now D2 LFG is completely full of "LFG Cheese" posts. People bitching and whining about Antiope/Uriels? Np. Nerf auto rifles. People whining about Vigilence wing? Woops, we buffed pulse rifles in response to the auto rifle bitching. JOKES ON YOU WHINERS. People whining about Graviton? People whingin about ________? Nerf it, or buff it, but respond to their whining. --- NEWSFLASH --- These people will whine about anything and everything no matter what; but most of them are too shallow to realize that they are just whining about whatever the current most popular meta happens to be.... My favorite? Sleeper Simulant. An Exotic that EVERYONE CAN GET. Do the quest. So, it's not even hard to get, and people are bitching about it in Gambit. If it's so good, USE IT OR GET IT. But no, Bungie's response? Nerf Sleeper AND buff other linear fusions. Now - Queensbreaker (which is incredibly rare) is buffed and so now the tiny % of people who have it have a huge advantage. Nice job Bungie. Redrix Claymore too hard to get? Screw the people who busted their ass to get it, and go back on your promise to make it a hard-to-get exclusive item, let's just make a Redrix Broadsword that's even better and easier to get. The consequence? Loss of integrity as a company. Loss of credibility as a company. And rewarding the behavior of a generation of whiners. Worst of all? Setting a precedent. I understand making customers happy. But, when you take away everything hard to get, then nothing is really that special or unique. You take away from the endgame by giving in to whiners earlier. I have more playtime than 99.5% of the players and I STILL do not have a year 2 exotic weapon drop from an engram. Pretty ridiculous, but also something to look forward to... Maybe it's just that I'm getting older and cranky, but the 15-35 crowd has really changed...for the worse. Instant Gratification. Look into it. Feeding the beast just makes it stronger. p.s. Maybe I'm a dinosaur, but I was watching a big viewership D2 twitch streamer, who was bitching and whining that he played gambit for x whole days without a meatball. 3 days? Boo F'ing Hoo. Then he got it. AND he got y2 exotic arms. Next day, he was bitching and whining about 1000 voices. Are those the kinds of weak spined cry babies Bungie really wants to cater to?
