I've tried the Nightfall in D2 one time. That was enough for me. The multiplier and time limit is the stupidest thing ever. I miss the D1 days when I could take my time and go thru it solo. Why are we being penalized for wanting to take our time? How does it make any sense to rush thru it? Make NF great again!

You can still take your time and go thru it solo. The timer doesnt have any impact on you being able to finish the nightfall. You're free to take 3 hours to finish if thats what you choose to do.

Even in D1 you only got 30 minutes to complete a nightfall before you were locked out of getting gold tier, not much different here seeing as how you can take as long as you want to do a nightfall at the cost of less chance for loot

I understand that. But it's pointless when the rewards are tied to finishing under 20 minutes and with a score over 100,000.

You dont need a high score to earn the nightfall exclusive gear. Most people just do speed runs by setting up the best advantage modifiers so they can steamroll thru the strike. With that method you're lucky if you even earn 10,000 score. You have a chance to earn the nightfall exclusive loot even with a zero score. I got the militias birthright from the Lake of Shadows nightfall the first time I ran it and we had a very low score.

The one time I did it, I got nothing. Maybe I need to try it again to check. But I remember it was almost a garaunteed exotic in the first Destiny. Am I wrong?

You get a powerful gear drop your first nightfall each week. Score doesn’t matter and time doesn’t matter. It could be any legendary or exotic but you definitely got an item

It definitely can take some grinding to get the nightfall exclusive loot. One method to increase your chance of an exotic is to use a boon of the vanguard consumable at the start of a nightfall or even normal strike. You can get the boon from Zavala and it seems to be a popular method right now. Alot of LFG posts will even demand that you bring some boons:) lol
