So we got assigned with the task to separate a mixture of salt and sand, during chemistry yesterday. Naturally, I poured the mixture into water, to then filter out the sand. Then I would boil the water. Then i saw a quite "interesting method ". There were 3 guy who were using pincers to take out each piece of sand separately.

Well, they don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

1 RespuestaSo what I’m hearing is we need to boil the ocean to get all that freakin sand out of here.

In my chemistry class in college a girl got 6.0 M Hydrochloric acid spilled on her and her skin got pretty much destroyed when she didn't undress fast enough. I hope you never have a story like that one.

I once grabbed a soldering iron and held it for 3-4 seconds before realizing it

who the hell poured sand in the salt shakers to begin with!!!

Sometimes you may not be able to separate compounds with simple filtration. In the future, you could instead use chromatographic techniques such as liquid, gas and column chromatography, although you probably won't see these methods until after general chemistry. But I've never seen anyone try to manually pick out sand particles from a mixture.

5 RespuestasI'd just shake my shoe out. I can't go anywhere near sand without it ending up in my shoes 😐

We used Bunsen burners once. The metal tripod got hot. I touched accidentally. RIP glass beaker next to me.
