Agree with you 100% though luckily not had anyone affected by cancer. Unfortunately it's how kids talk these days, it's vile and even sounds stupid when you actually listen to what they are saying but every generation has the some thing. When I was still in school we called everyone a spanner, which was connected to learning disabilities. The school actually banned the word. I know my partner's kids tell their friend to go kill yourself and announce that they have aids to each other. At the end of the day I think they say the words and know what it means but don't truly understand them.
