Sleeper Simulant - The definition of Exotic Weapon

This gun is awesome. I used this gun a lot and when I read that the base damage had been lowered I felt let down. But then once I had logged in and seen it had 15 ammo, and 3 in the clip, I was happy again. This Exotic power weapon is an excellent example of what an exotic should be. If it gets nerfed because people are incapable of defending from it in a single game mode (gambit), then the faith that has been restored with this expansion, will be lost. EDIT: Seen a few people mentioning the aim assist. According to Ishtar Commander, the "Aim Assist" is 57/100. Plenty of other weapons out there with higher numbers than that. For example, Tractor Cannon - 90/100, Crimson - 75/100, Ace of Spades - 70/100, Wardcliff Coil - 80/100.

  • Ok, this is a hot topic. Some things to consider. 1. It doesn't necessarily need a nerf, it just needs a rework. It should NOT OHK on a body shot, the only things that do that are rockets, some grenade launchers and those can be dodged or mitigated by distance, they aren't instant. Hell even a sniper like Whisper requires a HEADSHOT to OHK. It functions like a linear fusion rifle and it hits hard, has much longer range than a normal linear FR, not to mention it has the potential to deal area of effect damage beyond the initial target. So, if you can score a precision hit, I absolutely believe it should instantly kill (like any Linear FR since they're all still power weapons...), especially since aiming with it is much smoother and less sensitive than using a sniper and other FRs. (Anyone who says Sleeper is just like a sniper, I'd like you to shoot a person in the chest with Whisper and then shoot them in the chest with Sleeper from the same distance and tell me which is superior since they're both classified as power weapons, the answer will be obvious.) So with that in mind... 2. This thing was originally invented to be used as a PvE boss-killer. Anyone who uses it in PvE will tell you to aim for the crit zone or you're basically wasting the ammo if you dont. It does absolutely KILLER precision damage and thus the focus of the weapon in PvE is to line up as many precision hits for maximum dps. This same behavior and skill habit should apply in PvP as well. 3. A body shot from Sleeper should absolutely put you into crit, maybe nearly kill you, but it shouldn't deal enough damage to OHK (I've been shot in the chest as a resilience 10 Titan with an overshield from the Invade status). This allows for a quick follow up to kill them with something else like a pulse or scout. Not hard, and actually requires some skill to do rather than "Point, Click, and Faceroll" methodology. Perhaps slightly increase its precision damage while dropping its standard damage just enough to keep it at that level mentioned above. This means it rewards players who have good aim in both PvE and PvP while keeping it as less of a necessary nuisance in Gambit. My final point is this, all the attributes and numbers and preferences aside. Sleeper is very quickly becoming the Gambit meta, no one can ignore this, please dear god prove me wrong. It doesn't matter if people are saying "Well if someone is using sleeper you should use sleeper too" or "Just git gud", just look at even the comments in this thread praising the gun, and begging for it to not be nerfed, and how people have switched to it just for Gambit, or have replaced Whisper because Sleeper is better. A lot of players will gravitate to whatever setup will increase their odds of winning, and right now Sleeper is the ace in the hole that gives any team an edge. It's safer to use, doesn't require you to get close, it doesn't require precision, hits instantly, and the reserve ammo is plentiful. Who wouldn't use it? (People who specifically want to play their own way rather than being forced to deal with a single damn facking gun all the time). In the end, I'm just -blam!-ing tired of seeing the same damn boring gun used in Gambit that has almost no counterplay. The fact this debate even exists is because something is broken about it, otherwise no one would be talking about it on either side. And because it's being abused, it's gonna get a damn nerf that will probably also punish PvE players. End Rant

    • I'd rather see it not allowed in Gambit than nerfed again. Maybe invading would actually take skill then.

    • Sleeper should absolutely be nerfed in Gambit. There's a couple huge issues with. 1. The range stat is deceptive. This gun quite easily can map people from across the entire Gambit map, even when you're just barely able to see them. Seriously - I have shot Sleeper in the general direction of someone across the whole map and have gotten the kill. 2. It's a 1hk to the body. The only other weapons capable of this are spread shotguns, rockets, fusions, and some grenade launchers. All of which have drawbacks that balance them. No other linear fusion can 1hk to the body. 3. The thing shoots a spread of beams. All of which have 1hk bodyshot capability. Minimal accuracy is required, even over long distances. 4. It can shutdown any super, with the exception of bubble, with a single shot. From across the map. With questionable aim at best. From the hip. The only other weapon capable of 1hk to supers is high impact snipers. That require headshots from a closer distance. 5. It has 3 in the chamber. Can get 4 rounds per brick, and can hold some stupid amount of reserves like 14. The main problem here is that while you can use other exotics/loadouts, there is literally NO REASON to run any other exotic/heavy over Sleeper currently. And without it, you're giving yourself less of an advantage at best, and putting yourself at a huge disadvantage at worst. Gambit is amazing, but Sleeper is the biggest reason why a lot of people refuse to play it.

      • The aim assist nor the damage are the problems. The problem is that the hit box for the lazer is huge. No reason someones shots should be a meter away from me and still kill me. The gun just shouldnt be im gambit. It ruins the game mode. No nerfs just make it so it cant be equipped in gambit. It is way to easy to just melt bosses and players with it in gambit.

      • I really dont mind the weapon But their whole Team pulled Out a sleeper in Gambit and in some dumb Fashion Shot the Boss the bounce Killed me and melted 65% Boss HP I dont mind it AS a weapon and im blessed to See in PvE being correctly used and You can Shut down someone with a Fusion Rifle or Sniper Rifle Headshot Thats Not a Problem its a Problem i Need to AIM the Head to do that and He can anahliate my whole Squad in 2 shots Worse then getting superd Cause i feel Happy when im suppered cause i took IT away from them

      • As someone who has been sleepered a fair bit in the few games of gambit I’ve played, it doesn’t need a nerf. There are counters. I’ve positioned myself behind cover when I knew the enemy had invaded and killed them. It’s strong but it is exotic and should be as such. If you are among those calling for a nerf, especially after having seen the state of this franchise for the past year, do us all a favor and lay on some train tracks.

        • It's a one-hit, body-shot kill at extreme range in a PvP mode where you can actually hoard heavy ammo, on a person with an overshield, who spawns in at a random location. It's a problem.

          • It doesn't really have to matter how much people complain. They have all the numbers and can easily see trends. Trends typically mean one thing, it's not hard to follow. I have no problem with sleeper 1 shotting me, in the head. Not so far across the screen that i'm a tiny dot on a hanging toenail graze 1 shot. They have shown that they can adjust certain weapons in pvp and not hurt pve. It should remain powerful in PVE but right now in gambit it's getting a bit much. When every invader is rolling with it, there might be an issue.

              • Brah there's something wrong with the weapon, this is speaking from using it myself. I clearly miss, by almost the width of the reticule and still get a kill. It's ridiculous lol. I'm ok with the damage and all that, they just need to sort that shit out.

                  • Got 5 kills in one invader run, killed the fourth guy and his teammate who had respawned behind him with one shot from sleeper. That was fun. lol

                    • Sleeper is fine in its current state it's not op in pvp or pve content it just breaks gambit due to the fact invaders have way to much advantage, over sheild, no aggro off mobs, huge sign posts of where a player is an how many motes they have an that needs to change, until then the best thing bungie can do till gambit gets a much needed QOL patch just banned sleeper from the game mode.

                      • It doesn’t need a nerf. But it’s definitely hard to counter a gun that kills with one shot to the body without using a sleeper of your own. Keep in mind that the invader knows exactly where you are and gets a shield. He can easily prefire your ass and you have to hit him twice if the teammates don’t help
