Did you watch any of the gameplay at all? They basically said you can tackle quests anyway you want and that includes non violent approaches. But are you really asking a game based in the Cyberpunk universe to not have guns or less shooting in the game?
Did I watch? Yes, all 48 minutes of it. They said a lot of things, they also put in a disclaimer saying what was shown may not even be in the final game (which I'm expecting). So what does handling one scenario various ways accomplish? Halo did the same thing, so does Dishonored. You didn't need to go down the intended path guns blazing, you could use stealth, avoid them entirely or find better angles for gun fights.
Your early life having an effect on the game, various skills like hacking and engineering, cyberware, skill trees, dialogue trees affected by charisma...
It's looking to be the most "RPG" ARPG we've seen. What more are you, asking for?
Everything up top I've seen in games like mass effect, dragon age, elder scrolls, fallout. Even they I don't consider as full on RPGs but more action rpg lite.
The numbers game is what would make cyberpunk a full on rpg. Is there a chance to miss shots based off stats or by player incompetence? What about dialogue choice failing or succeeding? I saw nothing like that in the demo.
Regardless I won't make a full judgment on it till near launch, even with the 48 minutes shown, not enough was shown to really evaluate it and the game can very well make changes as they said in the demo. I'm simply saying I'm getting a "it's just another shooter" vib from it. So I'm dumbfounded when I'm seeing "best RPG ever" from people on the demo cause it's that ridiculous to me, makes me believe they've never played actual RPGs. Especially when it's not even out, it's just consumer ignorance on their part and like I said in the other cyberpunk thread, we've seen games look this good before but then be far from the real thing shown when it's launched. Optimistic is really my approach with this game as it looks good, but there's a few things I question on if they'll get it in for final product. Them being "CD red" isn't enough when other big names have fallen victim to mediocrity.
I gave up a long time ago in arguing that most things labelled as an RPG aren't really one. Probably why loved Divinity so much...
Even so, I don't think they're pushing for a cRPG, barely any developers are - it's just that nobody can be bothered to label what they do make as ARPG's.
Still, I don't think this "just another shooter", it clearly has RPG elements.
And I can't think of another game where you're able to select early life options within character creation and have them directly affect dialogue/quests.
Like I said, this is looking to be the most RPG of this genre we've seen (which isn't the cRPG genre).
