I recently started thinking about this. But really, we aren’t going to have Cayde get killed off and then have no one to fill in his role as Hunter Vanguard, are we?
Like, the Speaker is supposedly the most important part of the city’s government and they haven’t even found a replacement for him yet. The Vanguard is also important to the City government as well, with all 3 Vanguards serving important roles. If the most important part was never replaced, then how can we expect a role like Vanguard to get replaced?
-
Now that the traveler is awake no one needs to speak for it.
-
2 RespuestasWho knows dude the story is so half assed it's ridiculous. You know D1 might have had minimal story, but there was character, a sense of wonder and vastness to the universe. Not to mention the grimoire. D2 has an actual story but it's so -blam!-ing generic that IMO, it's actually worse than the one in D1.
-
1 RespuestaShit dude, what if the Traveler revives Cayde as the speaker?
At least then we could say the speaker actually does a fair share of actually speaking.
-
Already retconned. Why story? Mohr lose endz. Make new story, retcon again. Poop, flush, poop, flush.
-
15 RespuestasWhat makes you think the speaker is important? He admitted he was lying. He doesn't have the ability to speak to the traveler. He just made stuff up.
-
5 RespuestasBungie said they don't want him to be replaced immediately. They want there to be sort of a lingering feeling of loss and defeat and emptiness for a period of time. Someone will come eventually, but I doubt someone will be step in caydes shoes by the end of the forsaken story. I think we'll be without a hunter vangard until one of the annual pass releases throughout the year, perhaps the next big dlc in 2019, or possibly even until d3. We'll just have to see
-
I think the reasoning behind the speaker not being replaced is because the traveler is awake.
-
So what happens to Public Event milestones?
-
1 RespuestaIt might even be what’s her name. Hawkthorne? She might be the hunter vanguard, somehow becoming a guardian, or not.
-
8 RespuestasFunerals are for the dead, and the Speaker ain’t dead.
-
Shiro-4 will eventually take the place of hunter vanguard. He is a vanguard scout, much like Cayde was during andal brask, and has most likely taken the dare.
-
5 RespuestasIs it possible Cayde’s son, Ace could come into the game and take back his father’s gun, his namesake, from Uldren, becoming the hunter vanguard? With our help, of course.
-
Watch Hawthorne or the Hunter from Warmind replace Cayde.
-
Supposedly the Hunter Vanguard isn't going to be replaced for a while... something along the lines of "feeling the void Cayde leaves" and what have you not.
-
I wonder how they pick the Speaker anyways. I recall them saying that he was a scholar on the Traveler so I guess only the best scholar becomes the next Speaker after some time.
-
The speaker was a hack
-
2 RespuestasHe will get replaced. By Shiro-4. As evident by voicelines from Shiro that were leaked since before CoO came out. The Vanguard are the most important in the City’s structure. The Speaker position is just a man behind a mask claiming to speak to and for a giant metal ball in the sky
-
1 RespuestaOnly hunter guardians we know of who could take his place is shiro or efrideet.
-
Shiro hasn’t doesn’t a quarter of he awesome stuff we have done. My guess, your Hunter becomes the Vanguard rep. All of you who main Titan or Warlock will be left pondering your poor life choices 😉 Seriously though, Shiro seems the lead contender and he’s not done a fraction of the awesome things we have. But hey, maybe that makes us too valuable In the field.

3 RespuestasNo one cared when the Speaker died. After all, he was a nothing character to begin with. His place in Destiny 1 was basically just to be yet another vendor. He had no real definitive use. "I speak for the Traveler, but the Traveler does not speak to me...." Really? So he was basically making up everything he thought or wanted the Traveler to be about. Sounds like a con man to me. I'm sure there was a stupid story card buried here on B.net that says otherwise, but if it wasn't in the game, it wasn't anything.

6 RespuestasThere isn't much they can do about the speaker. He's a religious leader and typically the role was passed down from generation to generation. I believe saint-14 was meant to become the next speaker, but since he's dead we are left with few alternatives. The hunter vanguard has slightly more information about how a replacement is determined. Usually it's via a dare. If no dare were issued I assume they would use the same technique that warlocks and titans use, which is to gather the strongest and most respected of the class to vote on someone to represent them. Alternatively, I hope this badly affects zavala and ikora and disbands the vanguard altogether to give us an actual story with actual consequences. I want to feel like something is on the line with every expansion similar to world of warcrafts story progressions. It's unpopular to want the vanguard disbanded, but I think it would be an incredible story moment. That said, we will need another way to get quests etc.

3 RespuestasHow hasn't the city desended into a civil war yet? The dictator/God king has been killed yet everyone acts like nothing happened. One of the Osiris weapons even talks about how democracy in the city is a lie and the speaker holds absolute power. Who has filled the power vacuum? Why have new monarchy not tried to make Zavala the new king? There is literally no one left to stop them now.
-
Speaker was just some dude who sold nice cloaks. Another character who bungie never bothered to develop. You can honestly replace Cayde with Shiro and i could care less.
-
9 RespuestasThe Traveler presumably chooses the Speaker, just like it chooses Guardians. So, we'll get another Speaker if and when this happens. From what I hear, Cayde will not be replaced immediately, but it will eventually happen. And while I think Efrideet would be cool, I also think that Shiro is the most logical candidate. He's a Hunter, a friend of Cayde's, and an Exo (so the Vanguard will still be one of each).

14 RespuestasYeah its pretty odd how they held no funeral or anything for the speaker after killing ghaul. I always figured he was more of a sacred, almost ceremonial, figure that just spoke for the traveller and acted as an emissary. I didnt know he was the leader of the city. At this point it is probably led by the vanguard, with officials from the 3 factions bickering and politicking like some kind of senate, idk. But for cayde? Hes gotta be dead or all this hype and anger was for naught. Shiro-4 has experience leading operations and is a veteran hunter, he would be the best pick. Although there is also ana bray (inexperienced and naive, more of a scientist than a leader), efrideet (definitely experienced but seems like she doesnt care for being cooped up in a tower planning missions), or even shin malphur, the legendary gunslinger (who is MIA right now hunting down yor’s cult i guess).
-
You can literally take the trash cans in the tower and turn it into the hunter canguard.
